Fan who called into Fran's show

I don't live in Iowa anymore nor did I hear his comments. Did he call McCabe a name or just question his playing time? If it's the latter, isn't that what a call in show is for? You have to take the good with the bad and when you lose there will be some bad comments from people calling in to these shows.

I must admit I am a huge McCaffery fan as what he's done to bring this program back to relevance in 4 years from where it was is pretty incredible to me. However, I sit watching games and sometimes question certain things. I honestly don't understand, at times, the playing time McCabe receives lately or having in in games late. He's had a rough middle to second half of the season so far. Being a senior and/or hustling means nothing to me. If you don't get the job done you play less. That was the point of my first post. We can't always tell people how great they are. Sometimes they just aren't very good. It is was it is.

I would love to know as well. Haven't listen to a call in show since I left Iowa as well 10 years ago. Is there a transcript of the call or a link?

Are you not a fan with a view? So what is the difference?

Appears this dolt fan is doing so because of what Fran said to him. Same type of stuff happens on here all the time when someone pulls out the Bandwagon fan card.

From what I understand, during the call in show, the caller prefaced his comments with the ole "First off Im a huge Hawk fan" or something along those lines. And then he was going to rag on McCabe until Fran put an end to it.

If this guy has such an opinion of a 22 year old student athlete and can take him to task on the radio show of his head coach then he should be man enough to put his name to it.

If you cant see the difference between discussing the Hawks on a message board, and keep in mind that I dont rip on players like the caller did, and personally calling out an individual player on the radio then I dont know what to tell you.

. (Because you have fans doing both on here so there is no difference)

So that is all the fan did and was cut off? So he was just critical of McCabe's playing time and was asking the coach about it? That is it??

Then allow me take some valid ones:

4.2, 2.7 31%, 26 from 3pt and 59 from FT.
4 points is his high total in a B1G loss this season.
0 points vs ISU

Fran says many people forget what he did against Xavier. Despite its obvious horrendous omission of logic, that's an encouraging statement. It proves he DOES still look at stats and care what they say.

Develop Uthoff. It's not too late.
Don't think he looked at the stats in this case. Fran said he "making all these threes"in the Xavier game...He was 1-4 on threes. Also, referencing a game that happened 3 months ago is telling.

Like I said, I didnt hear the convo. But I would be surprised if the fan only did what you are saying above and that got that sort of reaction out of Fran.

I don't know about you guys, but I can't wait to see Fran try and stick it to us fans by playing McCabe 20+ minutes tomorrow.

The following statement would probably fit better into the "yeah, I said it" thread, but...

For all I care, they could just scrap the call in shows. They are pointless. Most of the calls are of the "We love ya coach!" or "I noticed the Michigan safeties really try to creep up - any chance we would try a flea flicker on Saturday?" variety from guys with 12 year olds trapped in adult bodies. The only time anyone normal takes notice of these shows in when something like this incident happens (which isn't good for anyone involved).

All it amounts to is fan outreach, but in my opinion - as a fan - is the best fan outreach is W's, so stop making them waste time sucking up to prole fans. I would rather give the coaches back that hour (or however long they are) to use studying tape, making recruiting calls, or - gasp - spending a little extra time with their families.

There, I said it - pointless waste of time.

Agreed.

So no one is going to complain about the set play for McCabe right before halftime at the Indiana game?

He loves his team so much that he still isnt ready to claim his stupid thoughts by using his real name. Unless he is such a diehard that his parents named him Hawk Fan.

And yes I know HawkIPA isnt my real name, but I am not taking BS shots at student athletes on here.

1. His thoughts were right on, McCabe gets too many minutes.

2. He called in and voiced his displeasure, using his name, directly to McCaffery.

It's Fran's job at stake and who he chooses to play could certainly effect his earning potential. I don't like how many minutes McCabe gets as I would rather see more talented players get minutes. Maybe Fran believes McCabe is providing leadership on the court? I am an outspoken and opinionated individual and I would have no problem getting into my opinions with Fran or Zach but I wouldn't attempt to do it on a call in show. It's ultimately Fran's decision and it's his coaching career that's on the line. We as Iowa fans, have no say in the matter.

I'm assuming Fran asked McCabe to focus on his 3-pt shooting, thinking that this team needed more of an outside threat.

There's money to be made with this type of show. They don't do it for the fans. If it didn't make money it would be gone.
