Fan expectations being too high...

I wanted a top 6 finish. Given the strength of the league this year, and with everyone beating each other, I believe that is still possible.

My *season* expectations were not that high (.500 in conf, NIT), but my *game* expectations, clearly, are much much higher than what I've seen in the meltdowns vs MSU and now Purdue for example. We had no business losing either, and, playing so poorly.

Plenty of room on this bandwagon.

Our NCAA chances are far from over. Thinking so makes no sense.

Yeah, but they're fading with every winnable game we let slide by. Beating the teams below us and splitting with the ones on the same level won't be enough.

The way I see it, we have to sweep the teams below us, and win out against Illinois, Wisconsin, and Purdue. That might be enough, but I've got doubts about Iowa's ability to do that. Failing that, they're going to have to knock off Minnesota or Indiana.

I just don't see 9-9 being good enough unless they pull a major upset, and I've got doubts as to their ability to get 10-8.

Win out at home and beat Nebraska and Penn State on the road and we're 10-8, which we're going to do.

Right on.

However, the always-interesting joker card in the deck is the Big-10 tournament. A couple of wins there and who knows how it helps, if at all. I'm guessing it does.

Some of you noted the impressive meltdown of Cyclone fans after losing to Texas Tech. Then came a big win against a top 15 team and everything is swell.

The season is not over for you. Things can and will change.

80% of our fanbase is watching college basketball for the first time in 10 years.

Indeed.

The only bandwagon which will be more crowded would be the Cubs' if they were in 1st place, say, anytime after July 4th.

The Cubs thing reminds me that I hate pretty much all of the fans of teams I cheer for.

This was a game we needed to get. Not too many opportunities on this schedule. We need to sneak out a couple of road wins.

I don't think my expectations are all that high.

I expect the team to win games when it puts itself in position to do so. While perhaps not in the drivers seat for all of these games, Iowa was in a position to win the game against Indiana, MSU, OSU, and Purdue.

Difference is Iowa State plays in the Big 12 and has played one of the weakest power conference schedules so far in one of the weakest power conferences. Iowa has played the #1 toughest conference schedules in the toughest conference in the country.

Ryno jumps in with a post related to ISU?? Shocking

I guess I see that as having plenty of opportunities to right the ship with a signature win. But you can give up on the season if you like.

The problem with that line of thinking is that Iowa's conference slate is actually one of the easiest. Very front-heavy with few chances to impress in the second half. And the more of these toss-up games they lose, the more pressure they put on themselves to beat Minnesota or Indiana.

Yeah, I know, but according to Ryno, the Big Ten is da bomb, and any win is a signature win.

Minny is beatable at Iowa, and the Hawks gotta think they can steal a road win against a good team. They did it last year, and they are much improved.
