Yeah, I'm surprised that this hasn't gotten more talk as they are on Iowa's schedule next year. I guess the Big 10's 0-for-2011 overwhelmed it.
At this point Pitt is likely looking at a lost season next year. Nothing is guaranteed, but asking a coach to take over a team in February (hard to see how this gets done before then), hire a staff, re-recruit existing players, implement a system, and then travel to Kinnick in September and try to win a game is a big challenge. With Wannstedt at the helm, I had that game down as a tossup. With the yet-to-be-determined late hire leading the troops, I really like our chances. I think the game at Iowa State is now without question our toughest nonconference game (and potentially one of the 3-4 toughest games of the season).
That said, this could be a good thing for Pitt as it sounds like they dodged a bullet with Haywood (completely mystifying hire). However, that assumes Pederson will find somebody good, which I really doubt. They look like they're about to enter the equivalent of Iowa's post-Tom Davis era. Enjoy it, Pitt fans.
Edit: I now see the speculation that RichRod would be a candidate if he is indeed fired. If he tries to run a spread with those players (which of course he will), they might not win a game next year. Awesome.
