Fake punt

Krk, don't forget that they are trying to win. Just because you'd never do it does not mean they won't try it.

I saw it coming from my couch in North Carolina

I called it BEFORE THE DUDE WENT INTO MOTION... like everyone else.. why when he went into motion the Cap'n didnt call a timeout I will never know

At the same time that I lambast the Hawks for getting burnt on yet another fake punt, I will give NIU credit for perfectly executing that play. As fakes go, it was a great play by the pitch man, the punter, and the blockers. Kudos to them. And shame on the Hawks.

yeah, it looked like no one expected that. kudos to NIU, shame on Iowa. the words out that we're suckers for that stuff, so all the more reason to be prepared for it.

I believe NIU was motioning on other punts too. So it's not a giveaway. Their gunner was motioning to get separation after the snap.

Also, I was at the game, and it looked like our outside contain man was getting mugged/held. This allowed the runner to get outside. Was I seeing things or did anyone else notice that?

I thought so too, but one of our ends crashed on the pitch man too. Who knows, they played punt safe the rest of the game.

My group thought the same.

Watch the fake punt again. Its obvious the Hawks were expecting a fake. The Hawks reacted right away. It was just very well executed by NIU.

Nah, maybe they weren't "surprised" by the fake, but they didn't play it properly or were out of position to begin with. A WR and a punter should not be able to run an option for 40 yards if you play it correctly. Even if they weren't caught offguard by the call, they still weren't prepared. Being properly prepared means more than being aware that a fake could occur. It means being ready to stop it.

Kirksey clearly was being held in the run path. Huge missed call.

u r correct - but that would never be called. imo - iowa should always play standard D when the other team is down in the 3/4th qtrs (no matter what) - and drop a safety back to stop the ball from rolling. i mean what is the difference - the PR guy always fair catches anyway (don't have to worry about him dropping the ball)
