fake punt/trickeration alert vs. MSU

Trick plays still work
The idea of a fake punt early in the fourth quarter on fourth-and-6 (later fourth-and-11from the 36) at Northwestern's 31 seemed so obvious that it would have been silly for MSU to run it, right? Well, that's why MSU ran it -- and Northwestern overanalyzed the play so much that it wasn't prepared for Aaron Bates' pass in the wind to Fowler. MSU pulls out at least one trick play each game, and because most work, it increases players' confidence

I said it in another thread but I will reiterate it again:

If another team this year pulls off a successful fake punt against us heads need to roll.

It depends on the situation but yeah I agree for the most part. For instance, if Dantonio has the stones to do that in the first quarter at his own twenty yard line...I can't blame anyone for setting up the return in that situation.

But if they allow a fake punt in a similar situation that Wisconsin was in somebody had better be fired the next day. Even if it's some poor grad assistant:D

A fake punt could happen again in Kinnick this Saturday. I wouldn't put it past MSU to try one.

I don't care if they try it. My point is if the coaches don't have the special teams looking for a fake every time a punt situation comes around then there truly is something wrong with the coaching staff.

If we're winning, MSU WILL call trick plays. They did it against us last year, and have done it several times this year already, so why wouldn't they call something crazy next Saturday?

That hook and ladder they pulled on us last year caught us totally by surprise. I would think they will try something Saturday.

We have shown no ability to stop any fake of any kind, they would be stupid not to try.

The problem lies in Ferentz never in a million years having any inclination to call these types of plays. Because of this the thought of someone else calling these plays is a foreign concept. He doesn't think to defend against it because he would never call it himself.
