FACT: Hawaii and Alaska ARE NOT States

Well, they're not foreign countries, per se. No visa needed to visit either of those places. Maybe I'll go there to get away from this argument that has lasted since Sunday evening.

Sounds good to me.

Iowa just needs to win this F'n game tonight so that we can stop arguing about whether Iowa "made it" or not. All I can say, speaking for myself, is that if Iowa loses this game tonight, I'll be pretty disappointed in this season as a whole. Losing in "the first four" is way less than I felt this year's team was capable of.

The "play in" games are the first round (technically and recognized).

We're in regardless of "feel".

Also, I thought the analogy was hilarious and spot on.

The analogy was horrible and nonsensical. The states are not competing to determine a winner of a tournament. And if they were, Hawaii would be a 1 seed and Alaska would be in a 16 play in game against Arkansas.

I think the best analogy to use here would be the MLB wild card game. Those teams are technically in the playoffs, but they must play an additional game to then arrive at a somewhat even playing field with the rest of the teams involved. But in MLB's case, only 4 teams are in that boat while another 6 await the 2 winners. In Iowa's case, 8 teams are in the play in boat while another SIXTY teams await the 4 winners. So 40% of the teams from the MLB playoffs are wild card teams while only 11.7% of NCAA teams are in play in games. Thus, the disadvantage for Iowa is way greater than that of an MLB wild card team.

And as for the United States tournament, my Final Four would be Hawaii, Colorado, Oregon, and New York. My First Four would be Alaska, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Alabama.
