FACT: Hawaii and Alaska ARE NOT States

I don't care if the government officially recognizes them as states. They aren't geographically connected to real 48 states, and they were added so much later than all the others. Ultimately, they just don't feel like they belong with the rest of the 48.

Not even close to apples and oranges.

The only way this comparison would fit, is if the government wanted to add ONLY a 49th state and told the peoples of Hawaii and Alaska that they had to duke it out for the right to be that 49th state. That wouldn't make the loser a state, too.

We're in, but it doesn't feel like it because we've got to win a game to get into the first round.

Did Alaska or Hawaii have to fight a war with another potential state to get their star on the flag?

Look, I'm not a "we're not in the tournament" guy, but this was a poor analogy at best.

They did advance. US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico lost out and remain territories. Damn play in games.

We're in a state of limbo, stuck between the NCAA and NIT-almost basketball purgatory. Still, in the 4th year of Fran, I'd rather lose in the NCAA play-in game then win the NIT.

The parameters for a new state to join the union are under article 4 section 3 of the constitution. There is no clause requiring states to share a continuous border. So I disagree with your assertion that Alaska and Hawaii are not states.

However the income tax is unconstitutional.

Contiguous.

I've heard Russia is attempting to expand their bracket as we speak. Majority of the nations aren't sold on the idea of expansion.

The "play in" games are the first round (technically and recognized).

We're in regardless of "feel".

Also, I thought the analogy was hilarious and spot on.

So, you're telling me that the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico are states, too?

Well, they're not foreign countries, per se. No visa needed to visit either of those places. Maybe I'll go there to get away from this argument that has lasted since Sunday evening.
