Expansion months away and look south

In other words he means "It may take months for the Big Ten Conference to convince Texas that joining the Big Ten is in their best interest".

Barta said we're moving south in the Omaha World-Herald:

"We've talked from 10,000 feet about the census 20 years ago and the rust belt population, the Big Ten population versus movement to the Sun Belt over the last 20 years," Iowa athletic director Gary Barta said.

That data, he said, revealed a big shift in population to the South.

"More and more people have moved to the South," he said. "The Big Ten still has the largest population base of alumni, but we want to make sure years from now, if that movement continues, we're in position to say that."

Hmmmm? Texas is one Sun Belt team. That is a presence. However, if the Big Ten is really that concerned about presence in the Sun Belt and population shift then it would seem they might be thinking about more than just the Texas schools.

I would think they would want to move pretty fast. The longer it takes, the better chance the big 12 and pac 10 have to put together an alliance and tv network.
