Tom Dienhart@BTNTomDienhart Interesting piece on #B1G expansion by Lee Barfknecht of Omaha World-Herald. Could No. Carolina and Kansas be targets? http://tinyurl.com/a2hpuct

I don't see this ever happening, but the Big 10 would be the best basketball conference EVERY year if it did.

That would be a ridiculous conference with 9 teams in the Top 50 for all time wins. I wouldn't mind it. . .

Wojo from ESPN.com mentioned the same two schools.

I saw that too and it makes sense from a TV standpoint. They would add the KC market plus North Carolina. It also pushes back against the SEC expanding and bringing Missouri into the conference.

If it did happen, what would it do for Iowa basketball? It could turn us into bottom dwellers for the rest of our days, but it could also increase recruiting, and help Hawkeye basketball get to another level.

With the exception of the Lickliter years, we've been able to hang with the big boys of the conference. It would definitely raise the bar in the conference but it wouldn't turn us into bottom dwellers. Only horrible coaching could do that.

KU has the possibility for the rare football/track doubleheader. Plus those lay-z-boys in the endzone are schweet.

If they were able to pull that off, they might get another 100 people to come, bringing their total up to 8,100 people. I like the idea.

Every year, at least ten teams dance. I'm all a-tremble with anticipation. We won't have to tell anyone that the BigTen is actually 16 teams. We will have the best reputation in all of basketball ...

I would like Kansas and Oklahoma, or UNC and UVA.

I don't like UNC without a connector state and Kansas is going to cost more than they bring / unless ESPN has said otherwise because of Hoops.

However, overall, Kansas makes a lot of sense for the Western Group. Plains - Kansas, Nebby, Iowa, Minny. Lakes - Wisky, NW, MSU, UM. Central - Illinois, PU, Indy, OSU East - PSU, RU, UM, UNC.

I wonder if Kansas could be justified by bringing in the KC market. Hopefully they are smart enough to rename divisions the right way this time.

If you take the economics out of it, Kansas is a great fit. Every Western school has a good destination that would be easily accessible for the other schools. It just really works for regional road trips. While KC/Overland Park isn't everyone's cup of tea, I think it is ideally suited as a destination site for people in this region. It is not totally overwhelming, but provides enough entertainment/shopping opportunities to make the trip worthwhile.

I have always wanted Kansas in the Big Ten because of what they bring to the table for basketball. But right now all the money is in football and I do not think Kansas brings in enough footprint to justify adding them as a member. Plus, if I remember correctly, I think there is something written in Kansas Legislature that prohibits Kansas from moving to another conference without Kansas State.

I think the only way Delany does this if he can get substantially more revenue out of their basketball contracts.
