Expansion Costs & Considerations

I had an interesting thought ... is there no longer a price to leave a conference if that conference dissolves? Right now I believe the forfeitures for leaving the Big 12 are 50% for 2 years if a team is planning to leave the conference after 2 years. If the Big 12 is going to dissolve do all the teams going to the Pac 16 and the Big 10 get off the hook (no money lost this year). Also, if all of this goes down in the next few weeks, are we looking at a Big 12 in 2011 or does all the realignment happen in the next off-season?

If four schools are left in the Big 12 when all is said and done I believe the other 8 leaving would each have to pay $10 million each. If 9 schools were to leave they would have enough votes to change the rules to waive that.

I can't see any of the remaining 4 voting in favor of them not getting $20 million.
