Evidence: Ferentz and Co learn lesson from '06 debacle

Shumpert, Hitchens, Morris, Kirksey, Fiedorowicz, Lowery, Meyers, Coker, and Miller have ALL seen action as TR FR this year. This suggests to me that the coaches are not letting themselves make the same mistakes they made in 2006 when injuries undermined our depth and our upperclassmen "next men in" didn't answer the bell ... and, as a result, there ended up being A LOT of finger pointing in the locker room. And that also ended up leading to a "cultural" divide between the young and old guys.

In contrast, this year, I think that the young guys are playing, not only because they've earned it, but also because we NEED them to help bolster our depth. We need them to get up to game speed. We NEED them to help the team in whatever way they can ... be it on special teams or positional action as the "next man in."

In the end, we need guys who will work hard to be consistent ... but who will also assert themselves to make plays, all the while working within our system. If guys can do that ... then they'll likely get a shot to play.

KF big change happened when he benched Jake Christensen and went with Stanzi. Up to that point he always went with the veteran in most starting positions. RB has almost always been a challenge so learned from 04 season to have as many backs as possible. He has had no problem with putting youth at DB though!
