Every time we F up

Players will take on aspects of the persona of their coach. Fran does this a lot

Maybe Fran needs to let them know he will handle the officials. I didn't see any of Bob Knight players attempt to get on the officials.

Every coach in college basketball works the officials.. very few teams players whine to the officials after a call like we do

LMFAO! Last year I drew some parallels and was hammered. Coach comes in and loses best player and most highly regarded recruits. Has an all frosh player, who is only all-frosh because minutes are available on a bad team, and HM point guard. Has historically bad season, but pulls a late season upset.

I have heard Fran say that Matt Gates should get calls because he is the best player on the Iowa team. Almost as if jr/sr players "earn" the calls by just being the best player on a particular team.

I speak with a gentleman who was a referee in the MCVEIGH for a lot of years and don't think that Fran doesn't have a bad reputation in the ref profession. Those guys (refs) are human and his reputation precedes him.

Wait...so what parallels are you talking about? I thought this was a thread about the players complaining to officials. You are dissing Fran, correct?

Actually, I am saying that people acted the same exact way at the same exact points with the last staff when the situation was pretty much exactly the same. Between seasons people talked about how they had seen marked improvement on a historically bad team and how the next season was going to be a game changer. Then the next historically bad year started and everyone freaked out.

The point is, neither team really improved that much. They both got lucky and played inspired ball against a good team in a meaningless game. And the sun even shines on a dog's rear every now and then.

The point is, both coaches had far below NCAA D1 talent. Thinking they were going to somehow turn that into a winner is like thinking you can turn a turnip into a tomato. The problem is that people were sitting down looking at that turnip and trying to will it in their minds to be a tomato. Some even took a few bites and said, "um, good tomato!" Well, now that they are a quarter through, they are saying, "crap, it's a turnip."

Am I bashing Fran? No, I am bashing the people who were seeing the same results in a remarkably similar situation and interpreting it differently.

Also, I am bashing the people who are now starting to blame the losses on scheme and the personality of the coach, just like they did last time!

Here is the point. It all comes down to recruiting and both staffs were not the types to be able to get it down in year one and two. Year three looked promising in recruiting, but the fans were already turning on the staff. It ended up killing the first staff and the recruiting effort. People need to just realize this team is not going to win this season and start watching for improvement in the underclassmen.

Or like me not watch at all UNTIL they start improving.

And by not watch I mean that literally because the only game's I have seen are the UNI/ISU games that were on TV....but that's a whole other issue
