... well, at least they are today. At some point cuts will be made, but as of 7/26/2011 every starter from the 2008 Defense is active in the NFL.

Clayborn
King
Kroul
Ballard
Edds
Angerer
Hunter
Fletcher
Sash
Greenwood
Spivey

Credit to Brendan Stiles via Twitter and then via Blackheartsgoldpants for pointing this out.

Maybe this was in another thread, but it's worthy of its own.

You know, back in 2008 Jon said that the 2008 team would have more players drafted than any other team in Iowa Hawkeye history.

I fully expect Greenwood and Hunter to get cut before the season, but nonetheless it is impressive right now.

I think that if Hunter is healthy he fits their scheme very well- can be a special teamer and run linebacker.

Greenwood will make that team- smart, hardworking and faster than people realize.

Tarpinian landed in a perfect spot but I hate the Pats. He should have teamed up with Edds in Miami.

It is also likely that entire 2009 defensive starters will be on NFL rosters next year, add in Klug, Prater, and Binns plus subs Tarpinian and Daniels.

Binns will need to have a good year, but maybe.

I agree that 2009 D >> 2008 D. Mostly because it was composed of the same guys but they had a year more seasoning in 2009.

2009 D was one of the best college defenses I've ever seen.

What about the 2008 offense?

Well, there's Bulaga, Vandervelde, Bruggeman, Olsen, Myers, Moeaki, Stanzi, and Greene for now. I think Vandervelde only started half the year and Moeaki was hurt most of that year but I'm sure that helped Myers development. DJK will sign with someone even if he hasn't signed with the Eagles yet. I think Morse gets a look too, but we'll see.

Let's try this again. 2008 offensive starters in the NFL.

Brodell - no, cut by packers after failed physical
Bulaga - yes, packers
Vandervelde - yes, eagles
Bruggeman - yes, falcons
Olsen - yes, vikings
Calloway - no, cut by bills
Myers - yes, raiders
Johnson-Koulianos - no, not yet
Stanzi - yes, chiefs
Greene - yes, jets
Morse - no, we'll see

If only Stanzi would have been starter from the get-go, he might have hit his late season stride earlier and they could have avoided a couple of those losses.

I'm going to count DJK because I think he'll end up at least getting a tryout.

That's 19/22. Pretty outstanding.

For a whole season yes, 09 was better because of experience from the get go, but by the end of the year I think the 2008 defense was the best in the KF era.

King and Krould were better in the middle and Fletcher was a better corner than Prater, not to mention that 2008 squad had Klug, Binns, Prater and Bernstein providing great depth.
