Thomas' family will be given the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the ESPYs, an award show held by the network in Los Angeles on July 14. The award is presented yearly to individuals whose contributions transcend sports.

Here is the E:60 - Heartland video on the return to Parkersburg to speak with the Thomas and Becker families. Aired a couple weeks ago.

Well-deserved award. Sports is not life, but sometimes it transcends sport and really affects a whole community...this seems to be one of those times. Ed and his family impacted this whole community.

I almost started crying at work.

I do cry everytime I see the other schools' teams lining the street in their jerseys holding up the 4th quarter sign, with A-P's arch rival D!ke-New Hartford at the front of the line.

I watched E:60 that night and cried...and I got choked up hearing the news of the ESPY at work today...that's right, I'm an emotional wuss...

ESPN doesn't always get it right, but they nailed this one...and I plan on crying again on July 14th...
