ESPN recently released their Top 25 in the Class of 2017- including Connor McCaffery

Re: ESPN recently released their Top 25 in the Class of 2017- including Connor McCaff

At first I was scratching my head, but then I saw he's listed as a SF. He's currently playing PG for West and he's pretty good there, but I definitely didn't think 5* good at that position.

He averaged 6.2ppg last year just prior to title game. I think if his name was Connor Smith, he's not on the list.

THAT SAID...he wasn't trying to be a scorer on that team. He'll kick that up this year with Lohaus being gone. This seems to be a bit of a stretch, but it will be fun to watch him progress.

No, just a tie for the highest rated.

Kingsbury was a Mcdonalds all american if I remember right. He was a bulky 6'5 at 19 that once he was on the other side of half court he had (or thought he did) the green light. He was fun to watch. Those teams were fun to watch.

Saw him hit eight threes at Drake almost from half court. Even he couldn't believe it. He just stood with his hand in the air watching the ball swish through the net. It was an unforgettable performance.....

If that class had held together I believe they could have had a deep tourney run their senior year. Instead CK's ego got the best of him and Settles' back all but put an end to his career. Only Woolridge was left for his senior campaign and he put together one of the all-time seasons for an Iowa player.

The dreaded and supposed Hawkeye Curse strikes again.....

Oh, and he was also a puke, don't forget that. Oh come on, he was a punk.

So, I get from this thread... if he comes to Iowa, he's not really that good and he only came to Iowa because of his dad and is only so highly regarded because of his name. It's hard for the McCaffery family to get much credit up in here.

Jon - how does his ppg average in high school games compare to that of other top 25 recruits? I would think most of his ranking is based on AAU play against kids closer to his own age.

It is all about AAU ball for these ratings. No analyst ever goes to HS games. They go to AAU tournys where they can see 40-50 of the top players in each age group on the same weekend.

I am hoping that Conner will grow to 6'7'' or taller, but I had the same hopes for Matt Gatens.
At that size, he would be a proto-type small forward, who can handle and shoot it.

We need the two Mcaff boys at 6'7'' as wings for Iowa when they come of age.

There was plenty of scouts in the stands when Barnes and McD played their high school game on ESPN

Does lil lick count? Really?

Yes he counts........ all his dad's ill gotten money from Iowa. I wish my dad was worth millions. :)

Pretty rare occasion where the #1 player in the country along with his top 50 teammate take on Jereme Richmond who was top ten. I concede that scouts do watch these high profile HS games, but not likely that an Iowa City West will be in those games.

If Fran doesn't offer this kid, he needs to be fired...

Barta is already in Fran's ear about this, Shane.....

His arm is being strategically twisted.....

Good! Don't need Hoiberg sniffing around on this one! Wait...he'll be in the NBA by then after leading Iowa State to 2 straight NCAA titles.
