ESPN preview of Iowa

Typical KF comments...keep expecations low so the team stays hungry. I love it! Last year we were an underdog in nearly every dang game...should be interesting to see what happens with favortism.

the best info you can get from espn is "insider information" they have to purchase from another source...

I wouldn't say he's keeping expectations low like he sometimes does. He's trying to send the message to his players that nothing will be easy and the margin for error is so thin that what they do right now could make a big difference in where they end up at the end of the season.

When you make the statement that your team could finish 5th in the nation you're hardly keeping expectations low. I don't think I can ever remember Ferentz making that kind of statement. Just goes to show what he thinks of the ceiling for this team.

I agree. I don't really remember what kind of things he said in 2005 when expectations were high (I was 15 at the time), so if I'm wrong then this comment is off. But if he tried to keep expectations low in 2005, then I see this as learning from mistakes. Rather than downplaying the team's chances, he points out how thin the line is between great and average.

I liked his comment about Kansas ,and how that could of been us.KF knows what living on the edge is all about. We won some close games last year that could of gone either way.

I have to agree and it makes me laugh that some people on this board think we are just going to show up this year and go 11-1 or 10-2. I have rewatched a few games from last year when they were replayed on the BTN the last couple of months and it really hit home how close last years team was to being 6-6 if a couple of breaks didn't go our way.

We aren't going to get those breaks every year and sure this team on paper looks to have the talent to be just as good if not better then last years team but that doesn't mean anything when the games actually starts.
