5. How many NCAA tourney bids will the Big Ten get?
I'll say seven for this one. Indiana, Ohio State, Michigan State and Michigan are locks for the reasons I described above. Wisconsin will also be a tourney team, as the Badgers do a great job of controlling the tempo on both sides of the ball. Minnesota and Iowa will have breakthrough campaigns, and the seventh NCAA team out of the Big Ten will be Northwestern.

Minnesota and Iowa will have breakthrough campaigns and not reach the tournament? and NW will?
Or otherwise like hawkfan33 said, that looks like 8 teams

That's the way I read it as well. If I read it like everyone else it sounds as though it will be Iowa or Minnesota for the remaining bid, since he basically indicated that OSU, Indiana, Michigan, MSU, Wisconsin, and Northwestern were locks.

Iowa was in the NIT last year.. So they think Iowa will be in the NIT again this year. That's a breakthrough season?

Hmmm.

Well, we were the last team in the NIT last year. Maybe this year, when we get a home game, it won't be because of a scheduling glitch.

Breakthrough.

I don't understand why 'experts' say this type of thing every year. Northwestern has NEVER made the tournament... Maybe they will this year. But I don't see why pundits think so highly of them every year. I would never pick them to qualify until the do.

It's simple. They do it for the "you heard it here first" or "we've been saying it all along" opportunities. Then if they miss like they do every year on that perdiction they simply laugh it off and play the maybe next year card. This teams never made a dance, who wouldn't want to be the boasts about it when they finally do.

If a slight improvement is a breakthrough, then last year was really the break through season..

I honestly never thought of NW as an NCAA team last year - despite most people already having them penciled into their brackets. I don't recall their exact resume at this point, but I thought they were something like 1-10 against the RPI Top 50, or something like that. Personally, I was glad they didn't get in, because I just didn't feel they were deserving.

I get the feeling they were getting some "they've never been to the NCAA's before, so let's put them in if they're even close to the bubble" type of love last year.

NW has a huge psychological hurdle to get past and I think in the end, they will choke again.
The loss of Shurna is very big,as he was definitely a go to guy when the shot clock was short.
Drew Crawford has a bad shoulder, and Cobb is ineligible,so I think they find a way to just miss again.
