ESPN is Churning Out the Hawkeye Love

nice write up jon...kind of gave me goosebumps reading it.

i really have nothing to add other than GO HAWKS!

This season has the chance to be really epic or really suck.

Could also end up somewhere in the middle.

In any event, Jon is right. When you are Iowa, you only have so many chances to perform with the world's eyes watching. Deliver and the perception of the program changes for the foreseeable future.

way to play all sides of the spectrum there, LOL

Man we get out AZ unbeaten, the hype will be crazy! Which I think we will get out of there unbeaten because their defense will get shredded.

DOCB, you're really starting to upset me. we get you think we will lose to arizona. stop bringing everyone else down with your negative *** attitude

That is the first huge way marker...if you can get out of the AZ game 3-0, it's on.

The next would be can you get out of Ann Arbor 6-0...

I love the pressure, sick of being the underdogs fighting for respect. THe next level for Iowa is being on top and taking everybody's best shot.

Those people at ESPN must all be tavern hawks....thinking Iowa is a "national" program and all.

I liked what you said on your show a few weeks back Jon. If Iowa can get to the bye week at 4-1, everything is still on the table.

GO HAWKS!!!!!!!! 13-0!!!!

see, now this is a quote i can get behind!

DOCB, i understand your concern for the arizona game, and honestly, its a valid one. but at this time of the year, can't you just be positive? look how jon put what he did...he put some caution there, but was also positive about it.

you're entitled to your reservations and worries, but don't splatter them in every thread. just be excited for the season and see where it takes us

I guess this is what Iowa fans have been seeking for years...recognition from ESPN.
Last year, most of the experts looked at Iowas schedule and downgraded the Hawks.
This year they look at the schedule and pump them up. A bit scary, because we all know that we did not play great in Kinnick last year(my theory is the new playing surface hurt us).
The thing about this pub is that if the Hawks have a few bad bounces, and lose some games...ESPN will drop us like a hot rock and we will be poster children for underachieving. No doubt the pressure is on.
Even scarier is that we are still Iowa, with paper thin depth,as usual, like in the o-line,and could be sunk by injuries.
I agree that if you do not get in the limelight it is hard to soar, so coming thru this year would be huge. We are lucky that we still have some strong team leaders that will help the youngsters keep their head about them while all is chaos around them.
Angerer,Edds,Dace,Tony, ect were great role models for the younger players...now it falls to Ricky,Adrian,Klug,Jerimiah, and DJK to pick up the torch. I think they will.

If we succeed with a good year...ie..BCS bowl type year, I do think there will be carryover to next year, even tho we lose a lot. To be successful this year, we will need contributions from younger players, which will get them ready for 2011.

Expectations come with the territory of being a top-tier program. I love that we are getting some respect. Enjoy the spotlight while we have it, and don't worry about not living up to the hype, because these times have been few and far between for our program.

I'm loving every minute of it!
