ERIC MAY!!!

Not a crazy stat line but I thought he was a huge positive today. Thought for sure after that and one we were gonna get away with a win this game. But the close games aren't going Iowa's way this year.

Ten games left. Three opponents left that Iowa isn't favored in are @Wisconsin,Minnesota, and @Indiana. If they win one of those three and don't drop games to lesser teams they'll go 9-9 in conference and 20-11. Win a game in the tournament and they finally find the bubble.

However that's probably a lot to ask in the next 45 days. Iowa is in a hole, and they can't afford one more game starting out flat. The slow starts as a team is more frustrating then the regression of marble.

Go Eric, keep it up and prove me right.

Prove you right? I think he is doing what most expected but is playing more minutes than most would like. I know the increased minutes lately have come from an ineffective Marble.

I think we all did not expect much more than what he is currently doing.

he is averaging 4 points a game which is fine, while throwing in an assist and a couple rebounds. He is fine off the bench playing limited minutes.

Probably biggest bright spot in the game. He played tough and hit a couple big shots. I won't go so far to say he should be starting but if Marble isn't playing any better than this....May and Oglesby should see some more time. I sure hope he can shoot himself out of his slump.

Is it just me, or does it always seem like Josh o's missed shots are too strong? Maybe he needs to start pulling up nba range.

And now a May thread goes Oglesby. I for one am impressed with Eric this season. He has been consistent and solid all year. I would like to see him step up and become a bit more of a leader, we need his senior leadership down the stretch.

How do you want him to lead more?

His minutes are limited, he is playing within himself hence not making any major mistakes and playing to his capabilities. He isn't good enough to elevate his game to like 13+ points a game..

I don't get this mythical leader ship you talk about. You have no idea what he is like behind closed doors.

Exactly, I have no clue how he is behind closed doors, but on the court it wouldn't hurt to see him pull the guys together to tell them to settle down or get going in situations. A leader doesn't have to be a double digit scorer and in no way am I saying he should score more. As I said before he has been consistent and solid all year, both sides of the ball.

I guess I just don't put too much stock in leadership as I can't know what is going on. I have seen teams huddle up and still screw things up after they huddle up so how can you say the huddling up worked.

Of course teams still mess up, that happens. But to say it doesn't matter? Any coach would tell you otherwise. Usually both teams huddle up, one is going to mess up.

Eric May's stats...conference only. He is 16-32 (50%) from the field; 3-8 (37.5%) from 3 point range; 3-4 (75%) at the line; has 14 assists and 6 turnovers (2.3 to 1); and has 8 blocks and steals combined. He's also strong, athletic and can defend.

The main reason I checked Eric's stats is because it seems like he rarely turns the ball over and is making a decent percent of his shots. Both are true. Fran has said several times that he plays better coming off the bench. I agree that he seems more comfortable.

However, I would like to see Eric encouraged to shoot more and attack the basket more. He's a senior and doesn't rattle as easy. I think his shot selection is good as is his decision making. If (I said if) he could shoot the number of 3s that Josh is shooting and still make them at a 37.5% rate we most definitely would be scoring a few more points...not sure how many but am guessing someone will check.
