Eric May

Does he look really hesitant this year to anyone else? I know he's probably not 100% coming off the groin injury, but he looks like he doesn't want to shoot the ball.....ever.

He just doesn't have the handles to deal with on-ball pressure defense. Unless May has a clear lane to the basket his dribble-drive game is limited.

Even coming off of screens, he'll be wide open, pump fake to no one and then by that time he's got someone all over him.

He looks lost. I'm not sure about his basketball IQ. Good athlete. lacking in natural Bball acumen.

From my experience he looks like he's being overcoached, thinking too much.

May is a great athlete, decent 3 point shooter, decent in transition, decent rebounder, great kid, coachable, hard worker, unselfish, very limited in the halfcourt offense, struggles to create his own shot or creating for teammates, turnover waiting to happen, limited bb instincts and man to man defense, probably more suited to play in a mid-major but you could say that about 7-8 of our players

watching OSU and MN, including Ill,and Purdue we have a lot of catching up to do in recruiting, nice timing for Marcus Paige, ugly 2 days for Hawkeye fans, did I mention I hate North Carolina

We have a nice group of roll players, that when hitting on all cylinders can play competitive basketball.

Does A.C. Earl or Andre Woolridge have any elligibility left? We could sure use a couple of guys like them.

Go Hawks!!!!!

It is almost as if he's been coached to do something different. I know that's not true, because Fran has been vocal about May's need to be more active in the offense. I can't imagine May being the only player to be negatively effected by a change in style.

He may not be the only one, but it's very peculiar, as May was expected to be the one to benefit the most.

I think people got a little too excited about a different offense and a little too excited about seeing Iowa play a couple of those early season games vs. terrible competition.

Eric May stands to benefit from an offense that is up and down where he can run, fill lanes and finish above the rim. Unfortunately teams are more athletic and deeper than Iowa therefore Iowa is not going to be the UNLV runnin rebs of the 90's or the Loyola Mary Mount team from the 90's. Iowa HAS to operate in a 1/2 court offense and since the only dribble drive threat is Cartwright and it's not like he is getting into the lane every posession Eric May and Matt Gatens have to handle the ball. Eric May is never going to excel at putting the ball on the floor and beating guys to the basket, especially when he is forced to go to his left. I think Eric needs to be a little more agressive and maybe utilize a pull up jumper a bit more.

It is what it is, guys like Eric May who can not create their own shot or have a ton of basketball IQ can easily be taken out of games by teams with more talent.

It's not really that hard to understand why players on Iowa will struggle at times.

It's not just offensively... Eric was getting a lot of steals on the D end, now he isn't. Sure, the competition has steepened, but there's been a huge drop off. He hasn't had a single steal in 4 of the last 5 games he has played after averaging almost 3 steal per game.

It's odd.

Do you think it's just about readjusting to a different style of play?
