Eric May was Mr. Clutch Tonight

Awesome three when we needed it. Perfect floor game (12 points, 5 assists and 0 turnovers). This was the best game of his Iowa career. Well done Captain May

And he played 36 minutes. I wonder how slanted (in the other direction) the poll results would be if you had taken it at the end of last year, asking that if Eric May had played 36 minutes in regulation in our 2nd to last game of the season, what would our record be? What a great story...he has become a catalyst in this team's resurgence. Good for him!

He also had 4 rebounds and 3 steals. His 36 minutes was tops on the team.

I think his play in the last 10 games has been as impressive as Matt Gatens' late run last year. Maybe better when you look at the overall game.

Let's not get carried away with the hyperbole for the third straight year! If Eric May, Matt Gatens and Jarryd Cole were really any good, why didn't Iowa win more when they were all on the team???

Sincerely,

That Guy

At the beginning of the season I didn't think losing May would matter much, but I'm very impressed with what he's done as a senior. He will absolutely be missed.

I am really glad to see Fran letting loose of the JO experiment. Josh only had 7 and 10 minutes the last two games. He should have been there the last half of the season. Great game Eric May, I always knew you had it in you!

If we had Gatens this year we would have been in the sweet sixteen.

That Guy

It's interesting. Three years and three different seniors, character guys who toiled on mediocre teams and really elevated their games at the ends of their careers. All great Hawkeyes.

What is Senior Jarryd Cole, Senior Matt Gatens, and Senior Eric May never played together?

I highly doubt it. The NCAA would have caught on eventually that we were using an intelligible player and we woulda had to forfeit a bunch of gsmes.

Agreed. No way a guy like Pitino would stand for well-spoken kids in the tournament.

Oooh...no, sorry. The correct question is,"Who is Todd Lickliter...Lickliter"...You still have control of the board. Pick again.

May is working his a** off in this tournament. Not only has he played essentially perfect ball, did you see him sprint towards the ball when MD had that breakaway dunk? As fast as he was sprinting I thought he was either going to block the dunk or send the guy into the 5th row of the stands!

As much as RDM has carried this team with his offense, Eric May has quietly done just as much. May has been fantastic the last 6 weeks. I'd even argue that he is the MVP of this run.

He will be missed, but hopefully the younger guys are seeing what he is doing and how he is doing it so as to step up next year.

GO HAWKS!!!

I have very little doubt that more than once next year we will face a player in a game that "goes off" and say to ourselves "That never would have happened if May was still here." We may very well have enough offense to overcome a big night by an opponent but May will be missed.

For some context stop and think how many times this year we couldn't buy a 3 and thought "If only Gatens were still here..."
