Go get him.

It’s not a long shot. Guy is never going to get a shot at HC in the NFL.

I’m sure there’s a way to make him HC in waiting. He makes $2.5 to $3m a year. Make him the highest paid college OC / head coach in waiting.

Only if he gives us back his win with Colorado in Kinnick in 1988

He went Eric Ball on us that day, a second string running back pressed into duty due to an injury, then running roughshod all over us.

He has some baggage in his past that some will not be able to overlook.

Ummm…he’s going to be coaching either the redskins or another nfl franchise as soon as later this year. A ridiculous take

This was worthy of a spit take. Guy has been on every NFL HC shortlist for the last 5 years and he will give up his dream of being a HC in the NFL to be an OC for the worst offensive system in the country at the collegiate level? Sure. Let's go get Josh McDaniels while we are at it!!!

That all said, maybe we could land one of these guys if we sold it as a reality TV show. Sort of like Kitchen Nightmare or that movie about Sean Peyton having to coach his junior high kid's crappy football team when he got suspended. Imagine Josh McDaniels screaming at the camera, "how do these idiots not know how to set up a simple screen pass??? What have you been teaching these kids for the last 5 years, Kirk?????" This could have some juice.......

My point exactly! He has been on the short list of every NFL HC shortlist for the past 5 years. He has proven himself as an offensive play caller and yet hasn't been given the opportunity to become a HC. This path provides an opportunity for NFL teams to either shit or get off the pot. If they get off the pot and pass on him as their HC then it provides a clear path in a very short period of time to become a college head coach.

My proposition would be simple. He will be paid current salary plus some. He will be named the HC in waiting and given full reins of the Iowa offense. Ferentz can suck on lemons for all I care.

Reasoning:

Ferentz buyout is too hefty of a price just to get rid of him but you can certainly take some of the control away from him by making a hire of this caliber. Should Ferentz not enjoy the powerplay then he can retire, which he won't do until he has the .600 winning percentage required to be eligible for the Hall of Fame.

If I'm Bieniemy I see it for exactly what it is. A clear path to a HC position either at the college ranks at a power 5 conference or in the NFL.

Well, let's just be glad you are not our AD. Wowza.

Anyway, as a Chiefs fan, I always liked Eric, but there is also a reason he has not landed a job yet. He is not universally beloved by his players and apparently does not come across as a CEO type to run a big time show. That said, I still think someone will take a shot at him at some point in the NFL, and if he does return to college, it would be to take over for Coach Prime when God calls him to the NFL......

There's zero chance he'd want it... Agreeing to pay him twice as much would be only way he'd take the call and interview maybe... Even still he's a pro and he's not looking to take a lateral job in college.

The guy I want is Washingtons Ryan Grubb but he's just as much an impossibility. Prior to last yr woulda been the time to poach him. (Bama and Texas A&M already tried) Besides not being a fit with KF I would say between what he's making $ wise and how he's gotten himself situated his next job will be not only for an HC job but a pretty dang good one. His rise has been meteoric. He started out as his old HSs OC in Kingsley Pierson like 20 yrs ago. But he's still young I think he's 48.

The only and I mean only reason to me he could be a possibility for Iowa's OC would be if Iowa offered him the HC in waiting title along with absolutely breaking the bank for him. I could see coming home to Iowa and eventually taking over for KF being something he'd like. But they'd have to pay him HC type $ to do so and wait out KF.

Problem is that sort of hire would have to be from Goetz cause there's just no way KF would go for it. She interjected herself into BFs whole deal all because of the nepotism and how Barta plopped all that for her to inherit. But she won't meddle with an OC hire she just won't.

According to the google, Grubb gets $2 mil per through 2025. If it came along with a HC-in-waiting title, what do you think it would take? $2.5M? 3.0M?

I agree, it is never going to happen, but interesting question.

Which is huge OC $. BF was getting $800kish I think. What's the new HC going rate? BF is getting like 7 I thought I heard. Anything between 3 and 5 million maybe to wear a hat like that till you become HC yourself? It'd be interesting to get any kind of honest answer from a guy like him or his agent on that sort of thing
