Epic Fail Illinois - South Carolina is a better job

They are getting a great coach with a tremendous resume in Groce. I do not understand why there are those that think the coach as to be black in order to recruit Chicago. The color of their skin does not seem to affect the other coaches that go into Chicago and get the best talent.

Springsteen, I would still think that somebody who has been successful would be headsy enough to try and take on those expectations, especially with the school's proximity to Chicago.

There are 6-8 BCS conference teams that are closer, relatively the same distance or slightly further away from Chicago than Champaign.

Uhh, pal, you ever heard of Northwestern? DePaul? Loyola won a championship more recently than Illinois. Iowa and the Michigan schools are approximately 3.5 hours from Chicago, Illinois is about 2.5. But I'd rather live in Ann Arbor or IC over Champaign, that town is basically Ames, which is basically a giant Wal-Mart.

I had Depaul in there and then erased it. Im thinking NW and Illinois dont go head to head for a lot of recruits. Bruce Weber and Jerrance Howard would have no shot to pull in a player as dynamic as John Shurna.

I wasnt saying MSU, Michigan and Iowa were the same distance as Illinois, they are relatively close though. People act like Chicago is in the University of Illinois' backyard and they will have no problem locking down Chicago basketball talent with the right coach. That just simply isnt true.

The issue is confusing Illinois and Chicago, much like confusing Des Moines and Iowa.

DePaul is going after a new arena and practice facilities. If DePaul was to get it they would turn into a solid basketball program again.

Just wanted to point out that Groce's high school coach was Todd Lickliter. Found that interesting though someone has probably pointed it out already.
