Enjoy this Team

You're right, he's killing it. I actually thought he had a better game against Minnesota than he did when it turns out he only hit 1-3 but the one was a timely 3 point shot.

Since then he's 4-14 (5-18) counting Minnesota including ZERO shots and points in a combined 20 minutes of play vs. Maryland and Michigan in games we were well ahead in and his minutes have decreased - deservedly.

The whole point of this was that we need to shorten the bench, give the VAST majority of minutes to our top 6 down the stretch and spread Clemmons and Uhl in sporadically as actual DATA and not your clueless zeal supports that argument.

But you are right. Dumb fans are dumb. Some even more than they realize.

That's how Uhl's playing time has been all season, he's only played more than 12 minutes in two B10 games and that was the blowout against Wisconsin and the Purdue game where White was out with an injury. His minutes haven't decreased, they haven't changed.

He is spelling White and Uthoff about 5 min so piece, so he is getting about 10 min a game. This is very good experience for him as he will be counted on more next year. Hopefully we see a growth arch much like Jok this year out of Uhl next year.

Fran was asked this question today. He wants Uhl and Clemmons to get minutes to rest the starters. He commented that the BigTen is "brutal" and wears players down. The whole point I was trying to make (apparently in a "creepy" way) is that Uhl and Clemmons are not hurting us when they are in there, and that Clemmons actually helps on the defensive end.

One thing about this board: No matter how well the team does, the negative nancys always find something negative to say. Always. It is a constant.
I choose to stay positive. Iowa basketball is improving. Isn't it obvious? Why not celebrate it a little bit?

No, actually, pessimists like you are definitely creepy.

Get a life. Anthony Clemmons is a terrific defender. Do you even watch the games?
Gonna have to respectfully disagree. While I would agree that Clemmons has great quickness on defense, he appears to be prone to mental mistakes. Using the Maryland game as only 1 example, on one play you see him make a great steal and get it out to Mike G for the layup, and on the other hand, in the 2-3 zone in the second half you see him drift away from Trimble (when he had already established that he was on fire) and he sinks a 3 ball on us under Clemmons watch. This happened a couple of times, had an unfortunately great view from where I was sitting. So I would agree to say middle of the road defender, but not terrific. Still has some work to do.

Whar all the fire Fran guys now? Whar?

That's the thing. We lose three in a row and it's "Fran can't coach" and "what seed will we be in the NIT?". Then we look good and win a couple and it's "Enjoy this team". Thing is this is a pretty good but not elite team that's going to have some more ups and downs. It's going to have games like the last two and games like we played at the Kohl center. Let's enjoy the team but with an even keel and not be such over-reactors. BTW, I'm guilty as charged as far as being an over-reactor as well.

Uhl is getting more meaningful minutes this year and looks better overall IMO that Jok did last year. And look where Jok is now...much improved. I actually think we will see a bigger bounce from freshman to sophomore from Uhl than we have from Jok.

Its a nice mini streak....one win against a bad team, one against a pretty good team.

What is your system for evaluating the opposition. Michigan lost in OT to Wisconsin, beat Nebraska by 14, lost in OT at Michigan State, was pounded by the Hawks on their own floor and then lost by 3 at Indiana...with a chance to tie it at the end. That's not a bad team. We just made them look bad.

Maryland beat ISU on a neutral court. They swept Michigan State. They have been ranked pretty much all season...still are 19th despite the Iowa beat down. And you're saying they're just a "pretty good" team? Interesting.

Who isn't being positive? It seems most on here are being positive to me. I think limiting the rotation has been a HUGE positive for this team. I also think Uhl getting 10 min a game his FR year is great. It gets his feet wet, and let's him get used to the speed of the game so he will be ready to contribute more next year.

It's easy to be the contrarian. If things go poorly, it's "I told you so". If things go well, it's "So, I was wrong, but they're winning, so what does it matter." Not a lot of risk in being the contrarian.
