End of Iowa vs Iowa State??

Its time that the U of Iowa stop providing a big chunk of money to keep Iowa State's football and other athletic programs alive. The state should also stop funding Iowa State's athletic programs. Let them fund their athletic programs themselves.

Done and done. ISU is off the state dole as of this year. If you have a problem with it, you should really be ****** about UNI, who uses a TON of state resources and is absolutel unable to change that.

It would be ok if the clowns were a true rivalry but they aren't. In our schedule they rank near the bottom to the end of schedule. Our true rivals have always been Big 10 teams and now with Nebraska in the Big 10 there simply is no reason to play the clowns every year.

Now if they were on par with the Hawks as far as quality year after year and not the bottom of the barrel of the Big 12 year after year. By that I mean if the clowns actually competed in the big 12 for the title every few years then it would be worth playing them.

At this stage of the series it makes no sense to play the clowns yearly other than to help the clowns athletic department with money.

Don't tell the rivalry forum on HawkeyeNation.com.

Uhhh, It's a home-and-home series. Funds here or there that get distributed are virtually nothing compared to a Big Ten or Big 12 budget... Iowa is not funding Iowa State athletic programs.
It's a home and home series with a disparate payment contract that benefits Iowa State. Iowa is absolutely funding Iowa State athletic programs.

and Iowa never received any state money previous to the Big Ten network?

I believe they did in the past, but they have been self-sustaining longer than the Big Ten Network has been around. A 30 second search reveals they had revenue in excess of funds since at least 2005.

The whole 'ADs need to be self sufficient' thing only became an issue once Iowa did it. Its a made up controversy. Every dollar that either university contributes to its athletics, it more than gets back in marketing benefits. Enrollment, alumni retention, statewide goodwill, donor development, all of these are positively effected at both schools by having a prosperous athletic department.

As for ISU-Iowa, i say end it. Both schools dont need an additional game with 9 game conference schedules, both gain more by improving their bowl position as well as gaining an additional home game in the year they wouldve been playing at the other school, which evens out the effect of the extra money that is brought in every other year currently.

This is unfair. UI shouldn't have to fund ISU's athletic programs. The series should end and if ISU athletics ceases to exist because of it, so be it.

This must have been around 1890 or so? Certainly the 1960's and 70's will never happen again so UI will always be self sufficient.

Here's the announcement per ISU Football Twitter:

"The Cy-Hawk Series will be referred to as the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series. Iowa Corn will be the series sponsor for four years."

As if there weren't enough obligatory cornfield shots during the coverage of the Iowa/Iowa State game before...

Sure seems that way. Iowa State charges a premium for the Iowa game. Other than the Nebraska game the ticket costs to other ISU homes games are much less. Now that Nebraska is off the schedule Iowa State will need to figure out another angle to sustain annual gate revenues.

Iowa State losing the Iowa home and home game series would be a double blow to gate revenues.

I love the game, keep it. It's nice to see the big crowds it brings, and all the hoopla that leads up to game during the week. It's a good excuse for companies to promote team activities and such.
