End of an era for this coaching staff....

I am done with this coaching staff. They can’t even get me excited for the next game much less the players. None of the players looked like they were pumped to be there. I want to see the coaching staff make a statement that if you don’t perform, you will be replaced on the field during practice or during the game. Listen, when Coker is 100%, I still want to see a change of pace back to get 25% of the carries if to do nothing else but to give Coker a rest. Ferentz shoots that down because you have to give blood for two to three years in order to get in the lineup. If they were good enough to recruit and be given a free scholarship, they are good enough to take the field if they have skills that can help the team. How many of our backs right now could run up the middle or cut back for NO gain just like Coker did because he was so tired and sore from getting over used the last few weeks?

I also can’t stand the argument that we lost like 9 players or whatever to the NFL. We only lost one to NFL, the rest graduated so those players are a natural part of what every program goes thru and we should be prepared for each of them with talent behind them. The only reason for that not to happen is if we lose kids thru attrition at a remarkable rate…and that is most likely the situation because no one will get to play unless we are in utter despair due to injuries. That is not an excuse yet Ferentz always brings that up during his interviews. He needs to take the blame instead of passing it down to the players all the time saying “they just need to executeâ€. That ultimately comes back to you coach yet in the last couple of years, you have been more willing to try and point the finger elsewhere. I don’t like his nonchalant smart *** retorts to all the questions that the press has been asking him lately. He gets ****** at anyone (even Jon) when they ask a question about the challenges that even the everyday fan\follower of the game can easily discern.

There are way too many things going wrong with this program right now and it is easy to see when most of the posters or fans in general can make such acute observations about the game plan or his lack in attitude or the way our recruiting is hurting or even the lack of consistency from the coaching ranks to keep the players engaged. I am almost at the point where I can start to see the players are exactly buying into what the coach is trying to sell the team. They look unsure as to what to do or how to do it. They even look afraid at times to take a chance. That all comes back to the coaching and you would have to go quite a ways with your argument to point me in another direction.

I can only pray at this point that the coaching staff finds the stress or lack of success to much to bare in these remaining 8 years of his contract so that the program can get a another chance at life with some new blood. We are a dying program and I hope that a new heart is enough to bring us back before we are left by this coaching staff for dead. We all LOVE our Hawks and want so desperately for them to succeed. The football program is so much bigger than anyone or any coaching staff that is why I feel really good if we could get another group in here I would be confident that we could succeed. I feel bad for the players and just want what these players deserve. The right to go out trying to win no matter what. Let them all try and show their talent on the field and if they don’t have any, what’s there to lose by trying? We lose by a little or lose by a lot? I think that is all we played for today!

I could be happy if guys played with fire and act like they want to win! We coach guys to not get too excited and fold like paper tigers. Geez man get angry and hit someone just don't take it like a girl. If you want to win, play like you want to win.

I'm tired of how SLOW we play. I'm not convinced our guys are slow but they sure seem to be coached to be slow, tentative non aggressors......you don't want to get hurt Nancy....be careful out there!

Most on this board know that Ferentz and his staff are doing a stellar job...absolutely stellar.

Even if Iowa WANTED to get rid of Ferentz, they can't because of his super long term contract. Iowa could never buy out Ferentz's contract...

When you know where your next paycheck is coming from and the boss can do nothing about it, you can get very fat and lazy at your job beause no one can touch you. I'm not saying Ferentz is fat and lazy but he knows he has the program over the barrel and Iowa can do nothing about it.

I agree with you GoHawks. I could care less if Iowa wins or loses. Iowa football is dying under Kirk and is definitely on a downward slide.

At least all of you have class and are calling for a change in here and not in kinnick. Just watched the cal vs. asu game and the asu fans were holding up fire Ericsson signs. We could have it worse!

It will come if things don't change. They were hanging Hayden from trees in his final year.

It's because your expectations to compete for a Big 10 championship every year are unrealistic. Iowa is not and never will be an elite program, ever. Yet every year a ton of hawk fans put on blinders. It was not too long ago that Iowa finished 6-6 with a home finale loss to western Michigan. The world was crashing in. A couple years later Iowa gets to a bcs game. Your defunct coaching staff has brought you two bcs games and at least 5 respectable January bowl games. That's more than 80% of all the cfball programs in the country. Yet every time Iowa has a transition year and doesn't live up to your Unrealistic top 10 expectations you call for the firing of a coaching staff that 90% of cfball fans would beg to have. This after you lost nearly half of your starting lineup from a year ago. KF is one of the top 15 coaches in the country over the past 10 years. What coach in that other top 14 do you want that you think you could actually get? You have a coaching staff that has put together a program who loses games by 14+ pts about once every other year. As much as you despise the system in place it us a system and a level unmatched by 90% of cfball teams the past 10 years. You have a program with more players in the NFL the past 5 years than 95% of cfball teams. A lot of intangibles come in to play every year and every game to achieve that type of success. KF and his staff do 95% of the time. Be grateful that you have a coaching staff that has achieved more success in 10 years than most.

OVer the last 10 years, Iowa has been a top 10-15 program...so, being elite every few years IS possible. I don;t think it's possible to sustain that over a decade, but I think every 4-5 years is not crazy. Then again, I'm not one of the 'fans' jumping ship either.

There is not ONE single rational reason to continue with this offensive philosophy.
There is a MOUNTAIN of evidence that says this offensive philosophy sucks.

Look at the facts....it's not all that ineffective. Has it been ineffective? Yes....Has it also won us a lot of games we would not have otherwise been in...YES. Do you think another style honestly changes anything? The only change I see is the reasons fans complain.....we are a fickle fan base.

Your first paragraph could be correct.

Your second paragraph is not correct.

Third paragraph? There is some truth to it, but not for the reasons you suggest.

His contract, and buyout is a matter of public record.

You know what would make me happier than a new offensive philosophy? For the dozens of guys writing their dissertations on how much they hate the football team to go find another team to follow, a team they don't hate as much.
