Email To Gary Barta regarding black and gold sections

Some people will ***** about anything. This thread is proof. Can't you go back to ******** about the tailgating rules?

I'm not seeing how this qualifies as b*tching. People just want this to work, because it would be really cool. There's nothing wrong with offering input to the AD about it.

Put me down for being against the whole "lets all wear...." fad in college football. Harmless, sure, but I just think it's cheesy and I don't see why we have to follow the herd.

baaaaahumbug..... :) not that big of a deal, just an opinion.

I never have liked theme games. Iowa fans shouldn't need any extra motivation to cheer because they are already at an Iowa football game.

Color-themed games don't give people motivation to cheer. They are simply done in order to have an impressive effect on TV.

I hope this gets pulled off! Either way, playing under the lights in our historic stadium is always awesome!! If it looks good I will add yet another panoramic pic to my office!

I love people that complain about the marketing department, but those people are either (1) the same ones saying "I am wearing whatever I want" or (2) not telling the complaining fans to STFU and wear the shirt.

To the complaining people, if it doesn't make a difference in the outcome of the game then do your fellow hawkeye fans a favor and wear it anyway because it does matter to perception for recruiting, etc.

If we pull this off, it should look pretty impressive. Boise State used Orange, Blue, and White. (The white sections made the bleachers look empty.) I will go along with the few saying that they are against the theme games. I'm not necessarily against theme games. Theme games are great, but should be used occasionally for special games. Penn State pulled out their White Out game for us last year, and it had been almost 2 years since their last White Out. I think we probably overuse our theme games. It gets kind of old when you have a yearly Black Out, Be Bold Wear Gold, and now Pinwheel night. Remember when we had Wear Green for Shonn Greene?

Maybe we should get some new ideas:
- Stars and Stripes for Stanzi
- Wear your "bling" for Jewell Hampton
- Wear white masks from the movie "Halloween" for our kicker Michael Meyer
(anyone remember when they used to play the Halloween theme in Carver before the tip off of basketball games? They should play that each time before Meyer kicks off!)

This has SERIOUS potential, IMO. That'd just be pretty cool, and clever!

U of I marketing sucks

U of I marketing sucks

The University has had a subpar Athletics Marketing department for quite a while. I don't want to go into a large rant but case in point let's look at the basketball programs.

For seven Saturday's a year the UofI athletic department has a captive audience of 70k people. For the first two home games they didnt' show anything on the videoboard about men's or women's basketball season tickets.

This past Saturday for BSU they had season ticket promo videos for both MBB and WBB. If you are trying to draw in fans and maybe get some new fans to the game. Why not come up with some creative pricing or creative promo. Why not advertise a lil hawkeye club? Try and get kids into the game cheap, Iowa is missing out on a generation of basketball fans with the recent mediocrity.

Iowa should be using the sucess of the football program to try and draw in some new basketball fans.

Wonder if the PerMar rent-a-cops are going to pull people out and arrest those wearing the wrong colored shirts in the wrong colored sections.

They should play that theme whenever one of our kickers is trying a field goal, because that is a scary proposition.

IMO there are just too many "theme" games, I was ok when there was the occasional blackout game, or maybe a gold rush game, but seriously there are 3 games this year.. Why don't we just tag every game with a different color from the freaking rainbow and call it good?

I have family coming each week to games and now they always have to ask, "Are we supposed to wear a certain color this week?" Maybe I'm just a grumpy old 30 something.

Yes, you are.

Think of it this way, if it makes for a great visual, you know that they U of I will sell prints of the photo at Scheels, etc, and make more money so maybe the price of your hotdog or ticket won't go up.......or at least go up as much. haha.

Or they can slap the photo on the cover of the recruiting brochure that they send out.
