31 pts 7 reb in an upset of Florida. its kind of nice to see the guys Dean is going after are legit d1 players.

What was the deal with him again? Is he the kid from Brewster Academy that either he or his coach took a shot at Iowa in the media about nobody from Brewster ever heading to Iowa to play ball?

He was at Brewster, but I did not hear about the coach's comments. Doesn't ISU have a couple of Brewster recruits?

Sounds like Carter could have been a big addition to the Hawks....imagine getting Carter to play pg,and God's Gift at center....Hawks would be contenders for postseason? Instead we got Hubbard and nobody...ouch. Of course, hard to lure those east coast kids to the midwest...Rutgers and St Johns are sexier in bb.

Fair enough, but signing Carter may have jeopardized our chances against Gesell. I think over the long haul it worked out fine.

You could be right. Stanford seemed to be the other contender for Gesell, and they did sign Chasson Randle last year,so maybe that tipped the scales. Never know. Still, Randle is a stud,so if Iowa had signed Chasson,I would let the chips fall where they may...Carter? Not so much.

I thought Iowa pulled carters offer in order to go hard at Gesell. I could be wrong. happier with waiting a year on Gesell anyway.

I don't know if Carter ever had an Iowa offer, but he certainly didn't have one by the time he committed to Rutgers.

Gesell would have little trouble moving to the 2G. maybe a little undersized defensively there, but can stroke it and elevates well on jumper.

It was down to Rutgers, Iowa and South Florida for Eli's services.
But some people still argue if he had an offer. And then not to mention the Tweet that came from Brewster account saying Brewster guys go to IOWASTATE not IOWA. And all that stuff. Who knows what happened behind the scenes.

Look at all the kids Fran took serious runs at and where they are playing, I think we as fans would have been happy with any of the following:
Trey Burke, Carter, David Kravish, Thomas Gipson, Cezar, Tyler Harris, or Jacob Lawson

I know Otto Porter at Georgetown had Iowa on his list at one point as well, I believe he is starting now.
There are more, but I think it shows that Fran is recruiting the right players and I don't think any of the freshman have been disappointing...maybe Olaseni, but that is only because he hasn't been healthy.

I think all it's going to take is one decent year and many of Fran's top targets (without obvious Iowa ties) will start coming here. With the talent coming in next year, I have a feeling it will be sooner rather than later.

I agree, but I also think guys like White, Meyer, Ingram and Clemmons will be the telling of how well Fran is recruiting.
We know a lot about White so far, he has a chance to be really good. The jury is out on the other three. The highly ranked guys are nice to get, but how those "other" guys develop makes or breaks a program.
