Eli Carter or bust?

And how many touranment games did ISU win after landing a couple of top 150 players?

I am not going to say that we don't want them, but they are certainly not what we need to build the program. To put it best I can, I am in love with the process, not the players. I am willing to wait a few years, to get decent (if unspectacular) players, and let them learn their roles and build as a team.

Zero. Probably one of the reasons McD is one of the most disappointing coaches in ISU history.

Hey, I agree with you to a certain extent... except I love the process, the players, the games. But mostly I love winning and it's been too long for both of us.

Don't argue with IFG, she just enjoys the argument and attention. She will stick to her position even if contradicted.

I'm with you. Maybe Iowa picks up Shaq Stokes but I hope not Phillip Miller.

Same here, something seems fishy with Miller. And hopefully Iowa passes on Hubbard.

It's starting to seem like it really is Eli Carter or bust, with bust being Wes Washpun.

At the risk of repeating myself, why do you guys keep getting so hyped for top recruits? They ain't coming to Iowa! We won 11 games and are sitting at home right now!

When Fran rebuilds this program, he is going to have to use under-the-radar kids with a big chip and a ton of heart, because top 150 kids are not going to want to play for a team in the midwest that has been mediocre since they were in third grade.

There is no quick fix here.

I'll definitely agree that Iowa is not going to get any difference makers to come to Iowa right now by conventional means, even if the recruit lives 25-30 miles from campus (Paige).

It would be shocking if they were able to land Carter.

The Hawkeye program is going to have to take a major chance to land a difference making player. If the coaching staff feels that Hubbard is a difference maker, they have to take a chance on him (even with the four years of prison).

Perhaps, Fran has some connection to an impact foreign player who could help the Iowa program for a year or two to establish some credibility, so then Fran could land an impact high school senior.

I would DEFINITELY take Carter! But no, it would not be a bust for the spring recruiting. Fran is the man.

There is ZERO doubt in my mind that we will be successful with McCaffery, regardless of who we get. He knows what he is doing, and will pickup a good player or two this spring.

That being said, let's Get Carter! Hey, isn't that a movie?

If you want to pin your hopes on a recruit that could help now that kid is Katenda. There is no bust stormin said it there are a lot of good PG's out there. Plus I wouldn't rule out all these coaching changes adding more people to the recruiting pool.

HUBBARD!!!!!

Really? The guy broke into an old man's house and beat him. It isn't like he got into a fight with somebody and took it to far. He invaded an elderly man's house and beat the guy.

Yes it was awhile ago, but that kind of character doesn't deserve to wear the black and gold.

I would love Carter, however, I just don't think he is coming to Iowa. I'm hoping one of the JC's, either, Darius Smith or Chris Colvin. Washpun would be a fall back recruit in my opinion.

It will be a slow process getting top recruits to come to Iowa. The fortunate thing about basketball is you don't need 85 of them to make you competitive. I was not too surprised to learn the kid from Calif selected Okie State. All of us may remember the history of Iowa basketball but for these kids, the "history" of Iowa basketball is pretty nonexistent in their lifetimes.

It is nice to hear some kids are evening mentioning Iowa as a possible school. That has not even been the case the past few years. We will miss out on many of these kids but I think Fran will also be able to locate another Basabe or Cartwright along the way - someone who sort of flies under the radar and with good coaching, can develop into a nice Big 10 player.

This is no quick fix. That being said, I think this year the foundation was put into place and from here on out we should see the Iowa program slowly climb its way up to at least the middle of the pack ...

We all know recruiting is the name of the game. I like the fact Iowa is focusing on kids from other parts of the country ... I think it speaks well of Fran's contacts and openness to find players that fit his system.

You took one argument (top ranked players won't come to Iowa) and spun it into something completely different (Iowa State didn't make the tournament - therefore those players weren't top talent?). Anyone who says you can't bring in top talent with a new coach in a bad situation doesn't pay attention to basketball recruiting. Rutgers, Iowa State, St Johns, and Oregon all had coaches hired last year and all have top recruits coming in for next years team.

Anyone know anything about Mike Powell, Jr. out of Chicago. Van Coleman mentioned him as a possibility.

If true...he looks solid

I think I like his game better than Cesar's...fast, plays under control, dishes/passes very well, steals the ball, and just seems very deceptive. I like what I saw, thanks for sharing the vid!

I think he has a couple offers, but nothing from a major conf.

The only thing that I'd like to have seen more of in that video would be his pull-up mid-range game. I'm guessing that's his biggest weakness right now, because there wasn't one play to show that off. That's something that I really like about Cartwright's game.

Like that he is left handed you can tell he is a flat out scorer the other teams keep an eye on him at all times. Leaving guys under the hoop wide open.
