El Assico Cy-Hawk predictions

Some of the things he says are so gag worthy... i like the we were 3 pts short comment when asked about ranked opponents.

As much of a stand up guy as Kirk seems to be I've always thought this was perhaps an insight into some tackiness - He will throw in some excuses for losing or try to act like being close means that much.

Also, he mentioned coming up with 3 instead of 7 on some drives and how that is the difference in games.

Then well stop effing playing for the FG on offense - because this is what I see a lot.

Can't use that excuse when you don't even appear to be going for more than 3.

When Iowa beats mighty UMASS next week, Coach Ferentz will hold BOTH conference records.

Most wins as a BIG coach AND most LOSSES as a BIG coach.

He has 124 conference losses and 145 overall losses.

Longevity has its plusses, and its minuses.

Corrections to prior post.
Ferentz: 205 & 125 @ Iowa, including 128 & 88 in the conference. Including Maine: 217 & 146
Hayes: 205 & 61 with 10 ties @ OSU, for a .761 winning % (Didn't coach anywhere else.)

Ferentz's 125 losses while at Iowa is the all-time record for losses by a B1G coach at a B1G school

NOT disparaging Coach Ferentz. J. Hayden Fry is #9 in all-time losses as a D-1 football coach. Fry was
232 - 178 with 10 ties in 37 years in his storied career. Iowa football IS Fry and Ferentz!

Kansas St. is dogshit. Makes the ISU loss more infuriating. Unfortunately, it may be an indicator Iowa is dogshit.:(

At least we found out early that Iowa’s eliminated from the playoffs. Pressure’s off now and they’re just playing for the best bowl they can get.

Conference title was out of reach before the season even started, playoffs are now for sure out (not that it was ever realistic), there’s really nothing left than trying to make a better bowl than nebraska. Stress-free watching football now.

That’s what it’s come down to in the B1G now with no divisions and expanded teams. There’s not a snowball’s chance in hell that out of Penn State, Oregon, Ohio State, and Michigan that Iowa ever finishes 2nd in the conference (no playoffs), and by default that means Iowa’s never going to win a conference title.

Folks need to realize that. There’s no real sense of excitement like there was when the Hawks had a puncher’s chance at the west division, and then could hope for the east champ to lay an egg and win the B1G & get a playoff berth. Yeah it was always unlikely, but at least there was a chance if the stars aligned correctly. Now there’s nothing to even hope for because it’s such a monumental thing. What are the odds that out of Oregon, PSU, Michigan, and OSU that three of those teams will be down in the same year, and then in that same year Iowa is better than all the rest of the teams? The answer is zero.

So what we’re left with is ISU as our only meaningful game. The rest is just Iowa fighting to improve from the Ron’s A-1 Muffler Shop Bowl in Kalamazoo to the Nature Made Cheesy Poofs Bowl in Florida somewhere.

Well said Fryowa and what we already knew. That's why losing to Iowa State is so painful. Losing to a program that we shouldn't lose to is just that much more painful as a fan, at least for me that is what pisses me off the most.

I really mean what I am about to say. We are too weak to be a part of a conference we have no business being in. In football We would be better suited to leave the Big Ten and play in the Big 12 then at least we would have a chance at beating Arizona State or BYU.

On the flip side there are other sports to consider where Iowa has a chance. Ironically in basketball we have equal if not better chances against the Ohio State's, Michigan's, Penn State's and other football power schools. So there is the reason for sticking around and taking our lumps in football. Men's basketball, and Men's wrestling is where we get to pay those bastards back.

Still we shouldn't be losing to Iowa State in football. I think it is also more painful because we all bought into the hype of how good the QB was suppose to be. Now that we have lost to Iowa State this could be a very bad year for the football program. Iowa State is not that good in football and we have even tougher games ahead of us. It could be a very rough year. Nothing left to look forward to except playing the spoiler role.................... you know like Iowa State has been for decades......... "GASP!!!"

Also I want to put a shout out to the lady hawks basketball program.

On the bright side, KF will (should) surpass Woody in Kinnick
Keep in mind that during Woody Hayes coaching career they only played nine games a year. 3 more games a year x 27 years = 71 more games not counting the meaningless bowl game wins. Also it not just the wins but the strength of schedule of the teams you beat to get the total wins. Not to mention the punk ass weak teams we have added to the conference like Maryland and Rutgers.

Still, having the most wins in nothing to sneeze at and something Iowa fans can take some pride in. Would have been nice to at least got to play for all the marbles in my life time. That fucking ball lying on top of our receiver in the endzone against Michigan State and the MSU player grabbling it was the fluke that took away our best chance. It wouldn't have been a good chance but at least we would have been in the four team playoff.

You have no chance if your not in the playoffs. We are now in a no win, no possiblity of ever getting there unless some billionaire comes along and buys the players we need and also if Kirk retires. Both things need to happen and at least one will happen eventually because Kirk is not immortal.

The only other possibility that I have mentioned in other post is if they expand to enough teams "32" that even conservative Kirk can't F up.

…Men's wrestling is where we get to pay those bastards back.
Hate to burst your bubble, but we suck at that too now. Next year is going to be even worse by a long ways. Iowa wrestling as we knew it for 35 plus years doesn’t exist anymore.

And both wrestling and football were pulled down by the same coaches who resurrected the programs. They let the changing landscape of college sports completely pass them by and are allowed to stay because of past success.
