It's just a numbers game. Even if one in 100,000 people are shitty enough to do something like that, the Hawkeyes would still have quite a few. That doesn't even take into account the likelihood that it wasn't even a hawkeye fan who did it.
Unfortunately as a society we are declining. Meanness, vulgarity, lying, cheating, insulting others is a trademark of some of our leaders today and it can be seen growing in the populace now. I think Payton has handled himself well in a tough season. Is he a senior this year, cannot remember?
The thing about those types of 'fans' is they aren't necessarily Iowa fans at all... Unless we find out who they are they could be Neb fans/ISU fans MN fans etc. Idiots are idiots everywhere. I'm not saying with certainty they aren't Iowa fans either. My point is we just just don't really know. It's absurd to do stuff like that to any college kid period. Folks with a brian all know that. These 'fans' sincerely have large issues to feel they need to do that. Even just tweeting negative things at recruits about their college choices is bad. Those are literally kids for peats sake. But taking it to this level is beyond unacceptable. Far be it for me to have a solution for it though
There is a slightly different level of doucheyness for a fan to say that to their own players and a fan saying it to opposing players. Both are really bad tho. On a doucheyness scale, one is a 9 and the other is a 10.

I honestly don't understand why any player would want to be on social media reading any of this crap. I seem to recall Bohannon would get in twitter battles with losers online. Why?
Not saying these kids should not have an online presence on social media, but make it one way. Post what you want, accept DMs from people you know, but absolutely don't read or accept anything from the rando dipshits on Instagram. Even if 90% of it is positive and people telling you great things about you, it only takes a handful of DBs to mess with your head. I would ignore them all and focus on building your game up and your brand. The fans opinions of you are not worth engaging on
