Eddie George Needs to Do His Homework

He just picked NIU to upset Iowa. "NIU has a very capable back up replacing Harnish"...how about going into that they are replacing the ENTIRE OL. I find it hard to believe NIU is sitting on 7-8 solid D1 OLinemen at any given time.

He then mentioned their defense and experience. Well they gave up like 35 points a game last year...so I'm not sure I would be expecting them to be LSU.

B10 guy my arse.

This game scares me a bit... you may be right about NIU but we have two new coordinators and I can't say I know what to expect from the hawks. plus they may have an inexperienced oline.. but look at our dline, its not like we have big studs up front.. yet. I expect a fight... I hope I am wrong but considered taking NIU with points in my pick em league.

I don't see any way this game is close. They will be working in a new QB and an entirely new offensive line. Their defense returns a bunch of starters, but they were atrocious last year. If this game is closer than two TD's I'll be shocked.

It's going to be difficult for NIU to win this game. They're going to be coming into it unprepared and Iowa is going to be fired up having a new game plan. Iowa wins by 14.

NIU is going to win. I think Iowa starts off at least 0-2; might be a very long year for the Hawkeyes. No proven wideouts, TEs, OL. Absolutely no RBs and a mediocre D.

There, maybe I reversed jinx you.

scares me too.

youngest team ferentz has ever put out on the field at iowa, we are basically doing the same thing with our DL that they are doing with their OL, our OL isn't a group of salty veterans, our RBs are freshmen, our special teams are inexperienced......

I refuse to get worried about this game...because if they lose, then there won't be much need to worry about the rest of the year ;)

It's just a guess. I suspect James Ferentz will not allow this team to lose this week. On the defensive side of the ball James Morris will do the same.

It's possible it could be close and yet the Hawkeyes could still win by 3 or 4 touchdowns. A more aggressive defense under Parker 2.0 against an entire "rookie" offensive line may have something to do with it.

Theres always going to be someone to pick against the tide. Eddie is not always on top of his picks. I think KF knows what hes doing and what they are facing. We may have an indifferent year, but we will certainly start it out with a comfortable win in Chicago.

Unfortunately This board is going to be rocking and giddy come Sunday wondering why so much preseason worry. We'll see what we really have, or don't have, the following week vs the clowns. Then all the debbie downers can explode (even with a W)!

Eddie George has picked Iowa as a dark horse winner last few years. Sounds like he like many other hawk fans are trying to temper their expectations and predict the opposite way this year. This game has been a trendy upset pick for weeks. I just can't wait to kick it off!

MAC teams don't just replace that many players on offense and keep rolling like nothing happens. Especially losing their all time best QB who accounted for probably 3/4 of their offense and losing a running back who had nearly 1,000 yards. Not only do they have new starters on the OL but 3 of them are redshirt freshman. They also installed a new offense.

On defense they return a lot of guys from a horrible defense.

I think people look at their 9 straight wins, longest winning streak in the nation, and fail to look at who those wins were against. The wins were against MAC teams and several of them were very close wins even with the great offense they had last year.

I suspect you've got some tongue in your cheek here, but I'll debate anyway.

If the rest of the season depends on this on game, I'd be worried.

Historically (with a few exceptions) Ferentz-led teams recover nicelt from slow starts, especially with raw but talented youth.

Yup, it's like the people in my office. One guy even said he couldn't believe Iowa was favored and thought NIU should be favored. "they've got the longest winning streak in the nation"

Meh, producers probably said, "Eddie, we want you to pick an upset this week. Make it a shocker."
So he looked for a game with a double digit spread, then picked against the favorite. BFD

I think it will be close in the first half while we work out some kinks and whatnot. Probably somewhere around 17-10 at the half. But we kick it into gear in the 3rd quarter and get a couple turnovers and the offense starts clicking and we outscore them 21-3 in the 3rd to take a commanding 38-13 lead. The 4th is pretty uneventful and NIU scores a late TD to make it 41-20.

I'll be shocked if NIU is within 3 touchdowns when the horn sounds.
