Early Senior Bowl Invites

I think Clayborn might go. You never know. Sometimes the high profile guys go and only improve their standing. He isn't going to wow people at the combine, he is a football player. He would shine there. I think Ballard, DJK, Donahue, and Hunter all have opportunities for invites. Possibly Greenwood and Klug. Longshots are Vandervelde, Tarp, Johnson and Sandeman.

Tough call on Clayborn, if he goes it gives scouts a chance to nitpick and he slides which could be huge chunk change that Clayborn loses out on. If you had a rookie salary cap and draft picks were slotted, maybe you take a chance.

I would put Vandervelde in that Klug/Greenwood category based on KF's reputation in the football world in developing o-lineman.

You forgot about Reisner who I would put in that DJK/Ballard category.

Ballard will be the surprise of the combine...not just for us but maybe college football.....he'll put up some freak numbers

Didn't Donkey Kong Suh play in the Senior Bowl last year? I remember a lot of people saying one of the really high profile guys ran a risk by playing in it but he looked like a killer and only improved his draft stock.

Yeah I did forget Reisner. He is on the maybe list. He should be moving up lists. An average of around 24 TEs have been taken in the last two drafts. I like his chances of being drafted and sticking. I think he is a lock for a combine invite.

did anybody else see this guys analysis of AC if you scrolled all the way down the orginal link? He thinks that AC will be better served in a 3-4 setting, while i disagree, he needs to be featured somewhere like GB or TB in a 4-3 setting featuring a basic cover 2 behind him.

any thoughts?

Well he fixed it from earlier today, he had it mixed up with Heyward's eval. I think that Clayborn fits in any scheme but he isn't a right end in the NFL without more coaching. I think he is right about his lack of moves in the pass rushing game. He wins with speed and power right now. He often isn't asked to just go out and straight rush the passer also, he plays his contain responsibilities extremely well. I think his short area burst and football strength are unreal.

Right now 15 NFL teams run a 3-4 and 17 run the 4-3. There are several teams that are projected to draft in the top half of the draft that will need either 3-4 DEs or LE or 3 tech DTs.

Personally I would like him to slip to the Dolphins wherever they draft. But I am hoping they make the playoffs and I think he will go higher than that.

Ballard will blow up the combine, and I think he has a chance to be the talk of Indy. Every commentator for the past few wks has mentioned Ballard more and more, and more and more they're referring to his chances of being a 1st round pick. I can't believe pro personnel aren't drooling over his measurables and athleticism.

This may sound strange, but I think Clayborn is actually in a situation where his body and #'s will only be nitpicked and scrutinized, which sadly has become more common and important than what a player actually does on the field. I think Clayborn ends up going more mid 1st round than top 10, but he'll still be a high pick.

I think DJK and Reisner both also get drafted in the mid rounds. Both have been very, very productive players and should test out well. I think Stanzi will at a minimum get invited to a camp, and depending on IA's pro day, he may be drafted. Same for Klug, and I still think he's best suited to try to be a 3-4 or 4-3 DE, but I'm not sure how well he'd take to it having played DT for so long.

The other thing is that last year at IA's pro day the guys testing put up fantastic numbers. Some of those guys were very, very talented players, but I remember being shocked at Edds, Moeaki and Angerer's numbers in particular, and depending on what this years seniors do, that will definitely have an impact on their NFL chances.

AC has a tough decision, but personally, I think he should go and put up great tape against the nations best OL personell. I also think it could be a chance for him to really showcase his versatility, his ability to play anywhere on the line besides NT. I think he can cement himself in the top 5, and maybe end up in the #1 discussion w/ a showing that we all know he is capable of.

Stanzi has to go. With Locker likely not attending, he can easily put himself in the late first early second round picture w/ a star performance in the Senior Bowl. I mentioned this in another forum, it's getting pretty difficult right now for people not to say that Stanzi is in fact the best Senior QB in the country.

this may be a stretch, but he first has to solidify himself as a "pick" in most of the experts eyes in order to move into the top two rounds. Don't get me wrong I think he will get drafted, but at this point top two rounds is definitely a stretch, i hate bursting bubbles - i should have just agreed with you :)

Stanzi will go to KC. When he goes there will depend on what he does the rest of the season. If he wins out and keeps his numbers about the same, round 3 or higher. If he loses and his numbers slip, 5th or lower.

GB would probably be bad then cause they run a 3-4. Did you see what happened to Kampman last year?

I think Stanzi, Ballard, DJK and Reisner, but the others are big ifs. There won't be 10 Hawkeyes at the senior bowl, lots of other seniors that are really good too and need to go. Like everyone else I want to believe that the Hawks have all NFL prospects, but not for the senior bowl. Reality check. :D
