Duke hits wall in second half in rescheduled game

What a ridiculous thread. UNC vs Duke is a rivalry game and it's not an upset UNC won. Are we making excuses for a game that hasn't taken place yet?

Didnt hear Vitale's comments last night so I dont know what he said.

I dont get caught up in what schools should and should not rush the floor based on their tradition or basketball history. Let 'em go if they want to but somebody is going to get hurt severely or killed at some point.

Personally, I think that risk is much greater at a football game than a basketball game. At least for the few times our students rushed the court, they were already gathered and ready to go, and the flow of students was relatively slow. When we rushed during football, however, that was the only time I was ever afraid of what would happen if I tripped and fell. Not only are there more students coming from the stands, they're also predominantly wasted.

Duke lost because they kept jacking 3s, they were 5 for 22, they couldn't hit crap but they kept trying. They also shot 42.9% from the free throw line and only had 5 assists

I rushed the field after Iowa beat Wisconsin to clinch a share of the conference title back in 2004 and never felt in danger. Have never rushed the court for a major college basketball game though.

The other end of the argument is how much smaller of a space a basketball court is than a football field. A football field is 360 feet long compared to just over 90 feet for a basketball court. It doesnt take many students to fill up a court.

Players have a much easier time getting to the locker room while a football field is being rushed in comparison to when fans are rushing a basketball court, IMO.

Could this be a sign of tired legs? It will probably be good for this team to realize how they will have to adjust for the tourney, but if you don't think the difference between energy level in the second half didn't impact the outcome I don't know what to tell you.

In general, this might be true, but not at Iowa, IMO. The tunnel to the locker room in basketball is in the opposite corner of the student section, while the football tunnel lies in the heart of it.

Obviously, the only evidence I have is anecdotal. But I also think the chances of falling are higher for football; most students are drunk, and if the turf if wet, that's not a good combo.

No it doesnt. Visiting teams enter and exit the Kinnick playing surface in the SE corner of the stadium.

The student section is in the west 1/3 of the south endzone and goes to about the 10 yard line on the west sideline.

The Iowa tunnel is lies right in the heart of the student section.

Coach K said after the game that in the second half his team simply did not have the spark, the energy to fight a UNC team energized by a racous home crowd. That will be Iowa's task at IU in a late start on Thursday nite. With a 9 oclock start, that IU fan base will be liquored up good, and desperate to get a big win to help their waning tourney hopes. The road team in that 3rd game in 6 days is usually going to lose. Iowa will need a superhuman effort in this game with all the travel and games. God forbid anyone on the Hawks get hurt or sick during this stretch. We could drop a quick 3 games and be fighting for our own tourney lives. This is a huge hill for this Iowa team to climb now.

I dont know, Cyclones17, are we?

You do realize Jon has now apologized for accusing me of being him and said I wasn't that guy, right?

Anyway, I'm not worried about our team being tired. We got good depth and these guys could play nearly every day.

Obviously there's a risk that a visiting player may do something in response to a fan, but the home team can be at risk in those situations, too.

Obviously I was talking about visiting teams being able to get off the court/field. Most times a majority of the home team stays on the field/court to celebrate with the crowd.

Duke almost lost at home on Saturday against Maryland and that game came off a wee'ks worth of rest. What's the excuse there? Too much rest?

Hopefully, Iowa hasn't had to much rest for the Wisconsin game. To much or to little rest doesn't sound like a really good thing for a team.
