Drug House Charge against DJK has been dropped.

Not surprising at all. The drug house count seemed flimsy at best when the story first broke. Wouldn't be surprised to see some of the other charges dismissed or a plea entered to significantly reduced charges.

+1 That charge almost always gets dropped. Like I've said since the begining if this is his first strike he wont be doing any time.

I might be a little surprised to see more charges dropped/reduced. I mean he did confess to the other stuff up front, didn't he? Not a lot of leverage there. Regardless, he won't do time, as I've believed since the start.

Man, the dismissal from team was hard to explain to my kids (ages 11, 9, 7, 5) who idolized him (and the rest of the Hawkeyes). We never really detailed why he was not playing "only that he made bad choices and broke the rules". Living in MN, my kids never heard it on the news or at school.
After the ISU game (which I took 2 of my kids), we were walking over to get on the train, probably 90 minutes post-game, and we saw Herky and some commotion outside Kinnick in Krause Plaza so we went up to see him. To our surprise the commotion was McNutt and DJK signing autographs! McNutt was leaving with family, but DJK stayed until everyone got their pictures and autographs. It was really cool. It made DJK more of a person, more 'real' to my kids, rather than just an athlete on TV. Then to hear of the charges was just a shocker.
I think he'll turn things around in his personal life and be a success.

Sorry, but I don't know what's hard about saying, "he was doing drugs." It was super easy to tell my 11 and 8 year olds.

This has to be disappointing for the media as they loved to talk about the drug house charge.

I know, it was just our reaction to it, and shouldn't have been. I wasn't prepared for the question. It was just hard to link drugs to their idol and crush that image. I guess maybe I didn't want them to think you could do drugs and still be an exceptional athlete, although hindsight would be to teach them you can't do drugs and get away with it.

We had a similar conversation with our two kids as well.
He made bad choices, apparently hung out with some people who made bad choices and don't do drugs.
Not sure how much sinks in, but we were able to turn the discussion towards the numerous athletes on the team who were making positive choices, working hard and were still on the team.
All in all, the kids seemed to understand.
