Drew

Good luck getting Scott Drew now. (was he even on the radar?) Wow. He has Baylor rockin! I don't even know if 3 mill a year could pull this guy away from Baylor now.

I was wondering about this. Maybe a bad thing that Baylor is headed to the Elite 8, and perhaps further....

Drew was never going to come. He's got Baylor on a roll and has a great class coming in next year. Plus there is a lot of money at Baylor and he'll be paid nicely.

He's not going to leave Baylor to turn Iowa around. It makes no sense from a career perspective. He has better recruiting in Texas than he ever would here, and if he keeps it up, he'll get good money from an elite program down the road.

He could get good money from us. Whether he wants the challenge or not is the bigger question, IMO.

Yeah, it's probably a longshot (as is any coach worth a darn, apparently) but I refuse to give up the hope until he says he's not interested. Faint as that hope may be.

One thing I'm convinced of is that Drew won't be at Baylor long. Another program will lure him away at some point.

You may be right that he may not be at Baylor long but he's not leaving to rebuild another program like Iowa, which disappoints me.

I had him on my short list becuase what he has done at Baylor is so impressive.

But after thinking about it, he's already rebuilt a program. Why would he want to leave a progam to rebuild again and go backwards. Money of course is the obvious answer but he will get the money at Baylor with the success he is having.

He also has to keep his stock in mind. If he takes big money for the Iowa job and fails, he'll just be another journeyman coach looking for another gig.

When was the last time a coach from a major conference rebuilt a team from the bottom up, only to leave that job for another rebuilding opportunity?

It just doesn't happen that often. Whoever takes the Iowa job will have the opportunity to be the next Scott Drew, but I don't think it makes any sense to believe that Scott Drew will be that person.

I'm sure you guys are probably right. As much as I liked Drew before this tournament started, his Elite 8 (or better) run has me wanting him that much more. Assuming he doesn't come, I guess we are just going to have to try and find the next Bruce Pearl or Scott Drew. Those guys are out there, we just have to hope that Barta has the ability to see who that next guy is. I'm not convinced he does, because (apparently) he didn't bother to interview Tony Barbee before Auburn scooped him up. Barbee can recruit, and turned around UTEP rather quickly. I'm disappointed by that. Strictly my opinion, but I think that Barta overlooked a strong candidate by not going after Barbee. Maybe Barta has something better lined up, but I'm having trouble coming up with a real reason why I should believe that at this point.

BUT.... This coaching search isn't over. Who knows would could happen. I'm still holding on to hope that it'll work out well.
