Drew Ott article

Yeah, that was pretty good. Some nice quotes from Ferentz and Morgan. How in the hell did team doctors even allow him to play with that elbow? Case of being too tough for your own good. A perfect storm of bad luck, bad timing, and the soulless hypocrites in the NCAA. At least it looks like he has a pretty decent life going now. Keep sporting that Iowa Strong shirt in the Husker heartland, Drew.

If you need an exhibit A on why Iowa has had 6 players leave early for the NFL draft in the last 2 years, all you have to do is look right here.

Drew Ott. A sure NFL draft pick who came back for his senior year of college, got hurt and never was the same again.

I want him and his wife to have lots of children who grow up to be athletes. Then I want those kids to play for Iowa. Fants son playing offense and Otts playing defense on the same squad. That team wins a national title while the Huskers still struggle to win the division.

Gotta put some blame on Kirk here too. Ott's FR year was wasted on the just the last 5 games of a lost season that he had no impact in. That's all on Kirk. Had he RS'd in 2012 like he should have, we may be having a much different conversation right now.

NCAA f'ed him, no doubt, but Kirk's hands are dirty too.

Technically your last sentence makes no sense. If we are winning a national title, of course Nebraska would struggle to win their division. :)

Ott's decision didn't cost him all that much money tho. It was his injury that cost him money.

Kirk's hands are only dirty in hindsight. Tough to hang a guy on that.

Not really hanging him. Just stating my opinion that Kirk made a big mistake. It happens. And for as vocal as he's been at the NCAA about this, I think he deserves his due as well for playing Ott & Smith in 2012 when they were non-impact players when Iowa could have really used them in 2016.

And its not really hindsight, everyone knew from day 1 that Ott & Smith were developmental guys, not AJE/Wirfs/Fant/B Smith types who are physically ready to play day 1.

Oh, I completely agree. He should not have played in that wasted season, and I was mad about it at the time. Very dumb move on Ferentz's part.

What I mean by hindsight is it only hurt him in hindsight. If he wouldn't have gotten hurt, he wouldn't have been here the following year anyway. Ott has gotten all sorts of screwed tho. They hand out extra years of eligibility now and they have the 4 game redshirt rule.

using my bill clinton parsing dictionary

It depends on one's definition of the word "struggle". It could mean they finished in 2nd place in the west, or last place. I was implying the latter.

well. that is a stretch.

Is it clear to anyone if our medical staff even initially imaged his elbow? I can't imagine if they had known his tendons had been completely severed he would have been cleared to play the next week with a brace.

Maybe the medical staff should have borne some responsibility???

The team "doctors" should have been fired. How is it possible that an MRI was not ordered or the damage was missed if one was?

Ott should have had proper medical care as an Iowa athlete injured on the field of play. Ott should by all rights have some qualms about how his situation was handled. Unless there is something I'm missing.
