Doyle named assistant coach of the year, Dennis Dodd goes off

Dodd wants attention, stop being stupid by giving him said attention.

Plus this is the basketball board.

Ummmm.

Dodd is right to bring up the timing of the award and to whom it was awarded. However, my guess is KF knew he was going to get some scrutiny for the timing and the choice and cared less. It was KF's way of showing Doyle in a public way that he was not being blamed for what happened in January.

IMO it says alot about Dodd when on Easter he has time to put out an article.

IMO it might also say a lot about KF that he would give the first ever Assistant COY award to a dude that, while extremely valuable to the program, also played a part in sending 13 athletes to the hospital.

If someone like Tressel, Chizik, or Saban did this, he just might get bashed unmercifully here.

It was a show of support to a good S&C coach.

Interesting. So, support is given to someone good at their job, even if a mistake is made that results in bad publicity for the university?

That's an interesting idea in light of this from the DMR today:

SK: Have you written or called Ferentz?
DJK: I have. I’ve sent letters, and things like that.
SK: Has he returned them?
DJK: Never.
SK: When’s the last time you’ve spoken to Kirk?
DJK: The Sunday following the Minnesota game. He said, ‘Good job, Derrell.’ That’s the last thing he ever said to me.

What's your point?

While I love me some DJK, and hope to see him one day accepted again by the program, his mistake and Doyle's are not comparable. DJK's involved very selfish behavior, which resulted in the bad publicity. That's not the case with Doyle.

Doyle has had kids go through this very workout in the past with no problem. Bob Sanders has said as much.
Why this one had negative consequences is anybody's guess. I still maintain that these kids took some ill advised supplement or just plain drank alcohol too soon after the workout.
That's just conjecture on my part.
Either way, any program in the country would give their left testicle to have Doyle on their staff. We are lucky to have him. And yes, KF is giving a huge middle finger to the media with this..... and I join him. (how where's that f'you smilie??)
