Every case is different. I am not going to judge Urban Meyers, particularly considering the pressure he is under to win. I believe that he is a good family man and that he truly cares about his players.
I think it is hypocritical for anyone on this board to criticize a major college coach for putting an emphasis on winning. To me, just reading most of the posts on this board would clearly indicate that most people only care about the Ws and the Ls. If you don't believe it, read the posts after an Iowa football loss. You would think that the world is coming to an end. There has never been more pressure on coaches and players to win than there is right now. It is just unbelievable. Wait and see what happens on this board if Iowa loses to Michigan. IT will light up like a Christmas tree with many people asking to "fire KOK", "change the system", "pass more", "blitz more", blah blah blah. They react that way because they are obsessed with winning games.
Having said all that, I really think that we are fortunate to have Kirk Ferentz. He has solid values and he tries to have rules and do things the right way. Is he perfect? Of course not, but who is.
I'm not going to judge the Florida coach or any coach until I am in their shoes and feel the pressure they are feeling to win. The decisions become very difficult to make (or even analyze) under that kind of pressure.
You can't have it both ways. If you want a nationally ranked, elite program, then the coach is going to try to keep the best players on the field so long as no rules or laws are broken. Was anybody surprised that Ferentz tried to protect Clayborn after the taxi incident? I was not.
