Dowling DE John Waggoner Slowing Down Decision-Making Process

John Waggoner was hoping to commit to a college before the end of the month. Those plans have changed for the West Des Moines Dowling Catholic DE:

It's code for, "Dad...er...I mean, I've gotten more offers I would like to consider".

That, or he simply wants time to figure out how to let Iowa and ISU down easy.

I think this is code for, "Notre Dame has told me that an offer is a possibility during the season depending on how I perform, so I don't want to commit to someone right now until after I hear a definitive answer from ND."

After assuming he's gone, the optimist in me wants to believe this. In a recent interview, another recruit said that Iowa encouraged him to do his shopping and be 100% sure before he commits. Maybe Waggoner loves Iowa but is following that same advice, taking all his visits etc...and we still have a pretty good chance of landing him.

A guy can dream, right....

This is just my line of thinking, but if I'm a consensus 4-star recruit who's getting offers from schools like Ohio State, LSU and others by the truckload, and my favorite team is the only blue-blood holding off, I'd feel slighted, and rightfully so. Hopefully Notre Dame's reluctance to offer pays off for us, we'd be getting a good one at their expense.

Some very recent projections at 247 have him with the Hawks.......doesn't mean someone can't come in later and swoop him away.

Heard one recruiting guru state that he believes both his parents went to UI.

Anything new here with Waggoner's announcement? Will he be visiting for the PSU night game? The 10 analysts at 247 who have made a prediction still have him going to Iowa.

Having OSU and ND lose this weekend couldn't have hurt either... He seems to have gone radio silent since season started. I haven't heard anything for awhile on him either. Sure hope 247 is right

He's really focused on his season right now. To my knowledge, he has not set up any of his official visits. I will try to catch up with him soon.

I'm sort of at the point where, sure, it'd be awesome to get a player of his caliber...especially being an Iowa guy. But then I look at the players we currently have there (Epenesa, Nelson, Simon, Gholston) and feel like we're pretty solid there. It won't be like it was losing Martin where he was going to fill an absolute position of need....

But if he red shirts, he will be 2 years behind AJ and 3 behind Anthony Nelson. If AJ leaves early, he could be a 3 year starter.

It's not the end of the world if we don't get Waggoner. It wasn't with Martin. But You can never have enough depth on the lines. He'd be a terrific addition to this program. He's having a really good senior season.

Dowling looks unstoppable. I can't remember the last time they beat Valley by that much.

It will be very interesting going forward to see how Martin performs vs Smith & ISM. Me personally, I would have taken Smith & ISM over Martin so I think Iowa got the best deal.

On problem is that Smith & ISM will be on the field this & next quite a bit. It could be a long time before Martin cracks the 2 deep at Michigan. The have 4 other WRs in the FR class and 2 are clearly better than OM and the other 2 were good prospacts as well

The running back for Dowling was the Offensive MVP from Minneapolis last year and moved to Des Moines.
