Don’t see one so, Week 1 Discussion Thread

I want to play real schedules, recruit real skill players, have a real offensive coordinator, a real athletic director and would have moved on from ferentz yrs ago. His rinse n repeat pretend bs doesn’t fool me. You are fooled by it. That’s on you and is your problem. Not mine
So sad, need a tissue.

Pretty standard iowa 1st game. Like how the team responded after the half. Stanley had a good one 21 for 30 252 and 3 td.

Gabbert is the real deal

The slow start had me worried. The 3rd Quarter reminded me of the 2009 squad. Hope they can start games like the did coming out of halftime from here on.

36-24 TOP Iowa. TDs to three different WRs. Stanley running when he needed to. Sargent doing his best Wadley imitation.

There were a lot of different personnel groupings. Some worked, some didn't. The Paulsens looked like senior Iowa linemen. Linderbaum has a bright future.

Jackson is going to miss some time and may be a huge factor the first half of the season (hopefully not more).

Pretty good run defense. Dink and dunk underneath coverage concerns. I am hoping Gabbert is really that good. The blitz in the redzone was risky and we paid for it. Latimore looks improved. Love Jones!

It was actually kind if good to get a test against a gamer QB. He was very purdue, nw, isu (ish) and they got the ball out quick. Good film for the cornerbacks and safeties to use. It appeared we had a very vanilla gameplan in the first half and opened things a bit in the 2nd. Vanilla makes some sense when playing a team ya should handle, the ability to adjust is nice to see.

One thing no one really talked about, the LBs seemed to play very well/solid.

Tough to gauge almost all the teams in first couple weeks. PSU looks really good, and wisc is regular solid....almost everyone else showed rust/jitters/questions.

Nebbys national title Hopes and Martinez heisman campaign likely ended today, sovthats something.

Good game for the Hawks overall. Stanley still needs to dial in the long ball and DBs need to tighten it up. One stat that stuck out to me is that we only punted once (for 31 yards). It didn't seem like it considering how the first half went.

And we punted from the end zone

Way behind the LOS

It was a solid punt, last season it would have landed on our 31 yard line

Our kickoffs were nice. landing in the end zone and sometimes they were high and gave our defenders time to surround the return dude

The second half we almost seemed in midseason form. Our offense, as the game went on, was unpredictable. No one knew, for certain, what was coming next. At least that is what it seemed like to me. Quite a difference from that debacle at Penn State 3 years ago when there was a video on Youtube showing the PS linebacker pointing exactly where the play was going to be.....

We really owe PS. We had them at Kinnick 2 years ago and it took a miracle pass from that nasty punk, McSorley to win in the last seconds. We also had them in State College and were one overthrow away from a victory. Lot of complaints about that throw but in reality is was simply not a completion, despite the ramifications.....

At Michigan and Wisconsin will be extremely tough to escape with a win, no matter how much we improve. We certainly own Wisconsin for the slaughter 2 years ago and Michigan will be chomping at the bit because we ruined their entire season at Kinnick the last time we played.....

It's All Good

Was a very clean game penalty wise I thought. Those pass interference calls will be BS all year long.

Miami DBs were grabbing Iowa WRs most of the game. But as long as officials can't/won't see it, it won't get called.

That said, receivers can't quit on the ball. But we are much improved there. Even the overthrow downfield to Brandon Smith wasn't a miss by much, and he did a damn good job tracking the ball.

This confirms it--you are in top 2 of the least informed posters--or trolls--on this board.
