With protests happening across the country's sports community, it doesn't appear any will happen with the Iowa Hawkeyes. The players shared their thoughts on Tuesday:

I've never understood the holding hands thing. I mean I get the symbol, but these are football players... Maybe they could do a group belly flop... If pink actually reduces aggression, what about holding hands? We used to smack shoulder pads and hit helmets with our hands.

I know you think you're being funny and witty...but it really just smacks of "look at me, I'm so contrarian".....you'd be better served to find a new schtick...

No... if you are offended, ignore me. The holding hands pic was right at the top. It was fair game. Go ahead and hold hands and be mad.

Just do away with the national anthem before games. I dont know the history. But I really dont see the point.
I doubt many of us have the national anthem played before we go to work.
Well for years it was a money making deal that the NFL used... The services were paying (our tax dollars) to throw on their performances with planes fireworks and all that to the teams/league to do it. I think they were finally called to the carpet on that not too long ago to stop that but as far as now goes who knows if it's purely a 'patriotic' thing or what but stay or go doesn't bother me. The media is making out like a banche here with it all. They used to only show the anthem during the super bowl it seemed like on TV. Now they make a point to show it all and take a head count of who's doing what... This fad shall pass like the bell bottoms and mullets..

Don't know about you, but I sing the National Anthem, God Bless America, recite the Pledge of Allegiance, then say 10 Hail Mary's, 6 Our Father's, and watch 3 episodes of GI Joe before I eat a classic Beef and Cheddar sandwich from Arby's. How else will people know I support the troops?

What's funny is NFL players used to stay in the locker room for the anthem. So all-american heroes like John Elway, Joe Montana, Bart Starr, Johnny Unitas, Joe Namath etc never once stood on the sidelines for the national anthem.

Its amazing what we get worked up over.

Yeah it's just so messed up now.. The thing I don't like is how everyone with an Ahole has a political opinion now and feels the need to cram it down our throats on all sides. If I want to watch politics I'll flip it to the appropriate channels/shows. I try and watch/listen to sports to be entertained. Not preached to. It's too bad those involved don't comprehend that hurts their causes not helps...

What bothers me is nobody can even have a normal conversation about politics anymore. Its always "I'm right, you're wrong, period". We all come from different backgrounds, have different incomes, educations, experiences, etc. Doesn't mean one side is right and the other is wrong, it means different things are important to different people.

People want to grab their torches first and have a conversation never.

And that's why lots of folks tune it out... Trying to force your 2 cents down my throat in a I'm right your wrong way never goes over well.

Exactly, and that sums up just about every online "discussion" I see regarding anything political. There's just no point, so I don't bother.

Politics and football blend together about as well as water and oil. Am sick of all this crap with the NFL players, now some of these coaches are pushing it onto 8 year old kids playing Pop Warner. Those kids don't need that BS.

Except for the fact that you have your opinion and are annoyed with differing opinions on the matter, how is what KF does as the ship captain any different than pushing it onto 18 yo's whether it be no kneeling, visiting other schools, and so on. He's pretty much a company line or else kind of guy.

I'm sick of the NFL thing too. If people would shut up about it....it would go away. If I see another video of a young blond haired girls weighing about 110 pounds acting aggressively on camera about how mad she is I think I'll puke.

We get enough Presidential tweets about subjects like NK.

Remember when Reagan made everyone mad because he wanted to change the Anthem to I think it was America the Beautiful?

My personal opinion is that a team that is strict on most things including on the field can do well when things go well. Give me players who can perform in chaos, distractions, and adversity.... that team is more apt to win championships.

I added Kirk Ferentz quotes from today for the story.

Just so you guys know, this isn't an invitation to get on your political soap boxes. I'll just delete the posts so don't waste your time.

So you are sick about people exercising their first amendment rights. Is there any situation where you wouldnt be sick about someone exercising their first amendment rights. The thing is we all have this right so you have to accept it when others execise their right so you can go plant yourself on a street corner with a sign stating your ideas and exercising your rights. Or going to the statehouse to yell at representatives.

Sitting or taking a knew during the anthem is so calm compared to buring the flag yet the Supreme Court has twice upheld the right of citizens to burn the flag in an act of protest. And Justice Scalia even voted on the affirmative side.

the people who dont like what the NFL players are doing can go picket outside the stadiums, refuse to go to games, write letters to the editors, whatever.
