I made that mistake last Friday. I asked him to allow us to beat Gonzaga so that we could then beat the UCLA Alfrauds. I promised him I would return to church, etc. Let me tell you how that worked out for me.
Sunday morning, about 1 am, my wife's grandmother went into hospice. That's when the phone calls started. About 8:30 am, she passed away. Me and my wife sat in the hospice room for the better part of the day, waiting on family members visiting and paying their last respects. Oh yeah, did I mention Sunday was also my birthday?
In short: I spent my birthday with a corpse, in a hospice room, on zero sleep, while my phone blew up by well wishers for my birthday. Then I got to watch Iowa lose.

This is where really religious people say "the lord works in mysterious ways" to explain away effed up $hit. Happy birthday though.

Please accept my condolences for your loss.

God has plenty of reasons for what He does and doesn't do.
Be patient......and certainly never give up.

Tough day for you...and I'm not talking basketball. Take care and be at peace.

Sorry to hear about your loss and the bad day you had.

Having said that I hope you don't do that again as I could be related to you....... Just kidding........but just incase have you done any genealogy lately? Please post ancestrial lineage. If I see a family link I may have to upgrade my life insurance. :)

I don't think God spends much time on sporting events. If he spent time answering your prayers for a win he'd have to spend time answering an opponents for a win. I'm sorry for your loss. Sometimes when we lose someone close to us, while it's unfortunate sometimes you can sit back and think of the things they did and said you find out that person was more amazing than you thought. I hope you're comforted knowing she's in a better place.

Or maybe he does and the Catholics are the chosen people, which is why Notre Dame and Gonzaga are still alive and teams with primarily protestant fanbases, such as the Iowa teams and Kansas are out. It's hard to deny Notre Dame's football history as well.

I used to think you had some semblance of intelligence but lately I've been questioning that. Thanks for clearing it up.

Sounds like a bad day on the family front. But life is full of odd coincidences which makes one wonder how an active God, if there really is one, is in our lives. I am not going to say more a **** off a bunch of people. Not going to talk about Epicurus logic of God's existence or non-existence.

Doc, I think he was just kidding around. He makes a lot of tongue in cheek comments in some of his post.

Actually if you look at Notre Dame's history over the past twenty years in both football and basketball given their HUGE fan base, financial wealth, and unfair recruiting network (NBC) their probably is not a more under achieving college sports program in this country.

I actually think their has been a lot of sarcasm in the origin of this thread and some of the comments made including my poor attempt at humor in my comments.

I can aopreciate you perspective on sports and praying for a victory and infact agree with it. I see nothing wrong however with people praying that no one gets seriously injured and that both teams and fans have safe travel to the game and home again. I'm am sure you would agree with that.

It's gonna happen to each and every one of us one day. And it will never come at a convenient time. Thank God for all the good things he's blessed you with and don't dwell on what didn't go your way.
