Don Nelson

I know this was kind of touched on in a thread a few weeks ago, but I never followed up to see if there was answer. I'm just wondering why Don Nelson is not included in Iowa's hall of fame? The winningest NBA coach, a former NBA player & All-American yet he is not in the Iowa hall of fame? Does anybody know why this is? Just seems really odd. Thanks in advance!

Nelson seems to be underrated within the Iowa fan base for some reason. I wonder if it's because he is mostly associated with the NBA now a days and he is old.

Has he tried to stay connected to the program in any manner? I came along to Iowa in the last decade. However, I lived in California during Nelson's glory days with Run DMC. Just don't remember any sense of an Iowa connection.

I think Iowa has reached out to him in the past to try to get him here for a bb game so he could be honored, but I don't think he wants to do that, for whatever reason.

I posted about this earlier as well. I don't think it's too big of a stretch to consider him the most influencial Iowa alum period.

In addition to being the winningest NBA coach ever (or soon to be) he also won 5 NBA titles as a player. Ohh BTW the Celtics retired his number in 1978...

I don't think I've ever heard a reason why this hasn't happened... I've got to belive there is a rift there somewhere.
