Dom Uhl

Has the body of a stretch 4 but his handles aren't great and he started his career shooting the 3 ball much better than he has the past 2 years.

Not sure where he is in terms of his academics, but if he's at all close graduating I could see him being a grad transfer candidate.

I am surprised Uhl hasn't improved more...and his lack of improvement as one of the more experienced players has left a hole in team.

He seems to be a guy who needs more minutes to gain some confidence, but with so many other players...that isn't an option.

Not sure what his game is, or needs to be, but he seems to be a guy who could make a big jump...with work and dedication.

CW and Uhl have been the biggest disappointment IMHO...nice to see CW have a good game vs IN...

agree they are good defensive players...just have been overall, a bit disappointing all around...

we were hoping to have a functioning PG with experience to start the year...ends up he is put on the bench by a freshman with PG limitations

we were to have limited experience with Uhl being an exception. He has disappointed, often appearing unsure about what to do and what role he plays

CW playing with confidence vs IND was a treat...

I was expecting further offensive development from Dom this season but it's been slow. It hasn't been from a lack of work. He's one of the first guys out to practice and shows up early before games to get shots up.

I disagree that he doesn't know what to do. He's often telling the young guys what to do. He's not a vocal guy in terms of leadership but the young guys do look up to him.

Cook and Pemsl are superior offensive players, for sure, but Uhl is a vastly better defensive player. And that matters. He saved us against Rutgers, who was eating the freshmen alive inside until Dom came in and protected the rim.

Williams barely played last season so it's not like he had a ton of experience compared to Bohannon. And Jordan has been much better than most people expected. But, again, recent opponents have exposed him on defense. He struggled to match up Lucas for Illinois. Jordan is a superior offensive player but Williams is on defense. And Fran played Williams with Bohannon the other night to get Jordan off playing the ball defensively.

We need role players. We have offensive firepower from a lot of places. Guys that know their roles and play them well have value. Guys also develop at different rates. As Fran said the other night, there's still a lot in the tank when it comes to Williams.

Concur...

CW and JB is interesting.

CW has demonstrated that he can do it...perhaps he has convinced himself.

Yes, Uhl can play defense. Pemsl and Cook seem, well, disinterested in it, tough work.

Would love to see this team learn to block out on rebounding...not that complicated, pays huge dividends...ball in air, identify a guy to block out, work to stay between self and basket.... The majority of the time one can see Iowa players looking at the basket...waiting to jump for the rebound. A team effort in blocking out is the cure. Baer milks this cow vs opponents constantly...no one identifies him...he sneaks in with hustle and has the rebound before the skinny white kid is even noticed.

I am puzzled why this team rebounding philosophy isn't a priority...

After several years of recruiting...PG is still a weakness and a mystery.

To me it's just so circumstantial. Uhl can show flashes here and there against certain teams/defenders especially when he plays well right away and then gets more time. I agree he is probably the best inside defender we have. It's pretty tough to rail on a guys shooting when they might get 3 shots a game tops? I mean that's hardly fair to about anyone. It's a tough role to have to know your getting limited mins and when you get a shot here and there to be expected to make it. I thought at times it was unfair to guys like Oglesby and Ellingson too when they were in similar positions. With more mins and time to get in the flow of a game you'd probably see better production from Uhl but with the depth they have that's just going to be hard to have happen.
