Does Tubby Smith make it another year?

Last nights loss was pretty bad. They are sitting at 5-10 in the Big10 and will likely not make a tournament.
Last year, no tournament.
2009, 1st round loss in the NCAA (.500 record in conference)
2008, 1st round loss in the NCAA (.500 record in conference)
2007, 1st round loss in the NIT (sub-.500 record in conference)
2006, no tournament (3-13) in conference. Was this his first year there?

They really blew it last night as they had Michigan State down for the count and they just fell apart. But I still think they beat Indiana and Nebraska at home to get back on the bubble and 1 win in the BTT should lock them in for a NCAA tournament bid.

Having said that I do not think Tubby is on the hot seat yet. Minnesota is no Kentucky and I think they will be a little more patient with him. He recruits pretty good, has some young talent on the team, and keeps Minnesota in the tournament hunt. Just look at how long they stuck with Dan Monson before they finally got rid of him (7+ years).

Unless he resigns, Tubby will be back next year. I don't think Minnesota will hire a new athletic director for a few months. Next year, with a new administration in place, could be a different story.

Ironic how much seems to be based on luck. You put Colton Iverson, Davoe Joseph and Royce White on this team and they are more than likely dominating the big ten and ranked in the top 10. Instead all three of those guys left or were asked to leave. Similar to last year when their PG broke his foot late in the year when they were playing well.

Tough decision for an AD when you have a legendary coach on the bench and have to contemplate replacing him at a school that, like Iowa, doesn't have a ton of local talent to draw upon. Without Tubby, MN runs the risk of looking like Iowa under Lickliter.

I believe his contract expires in 1 or 2 years and they have not extended it. This may have changed recently.

Luck has nothing to do with the Goophers. Tubby was always a top shelf recruiter but is terrible in game. Last night they were up 6 and ****** it down their leg. The coaches and players had no clue what to do with the ball.

I don't see 7-11 getting them into the BTT.

I thought at the begining of last year they were one of the best and toughest teams in the country. Watched them push around UNC out in Puerto Rico, but it's been all downhill for them since then. Lots of bad luck with injuries and transfers too.

I started watching that game at about the 6 min mark to go in 2nd half. I thought they had MSU on the ropes and it turned out to be about as big of a choke job as you'll see. I didn't see how MN got the lead so I'm not sure if they were playing out of their minds earlier or if MSU was sleep walking thru it. But untill the last 3 mins or so I thought MN should have won. Once momentum swung I'd have been suprised if they did pull it out.

No one on MN wanted the ball at all at the end of the game. It was pretty funny to watch an entire team look that scared.

Exactly. That is exactly what it looked like. They missed a couple of layups within the 3 min to go area but yea the last min or so was just hard to watch if you aren't a MSU fan.

Tubby came in with Lick and Beilein. This is his 5th year. Two NCAA tournys and one NIT in 4 years. Devastating injuries this year and last year. If Minny fans are pushing Tubby out, they are flat stupid.
Mbakwe was a top 5 player in the league. Take Sullinger or Green off of OSU and MSU and see how great they are. Same with Nolen and Joseph off the team last year. Minny has the worst bb faciliies in the league.
They played very well to be beating MSU for 57 minutes last nite. MSU beat Iowa by a 100 points, I think.

Somewhere you need to understand that MSU is a pretty good team and even though you have a lead, it's not guaranteed!

True, but did you watch the last 6 minutes of the game last night? Minnesota came unglued down the stretch and on their own home court. Even after MSU took the lead they still had a chance to tie or retake the lead and they passed it around like they were all to scared to take the shot. They were getting some good looks at the basket as MSU was in a no foul mode.
