Does this mean we are out of the running?

Oglesby is not a leftover...he is top 110 player.
Washpun might fit that category, but that is not plural..as the posters comment indicated.

Lets not go overboard on declarations of failure just yet,ok?
Fran recruits so far:

Cartwright- HM all big ten,led league in assists
Basabe- all frosh team
Oglesby- top 110 player
White- Offers from Xaiver among others,3rd team all state in Ohio..
Meyer- unknown quanitity but rising prospect in some circles.

Lets see how the rest of spring goes, before getting too harsh.
Compare the above record with Licks 1st 3 years of recruits:
Brommer- a miss
Tucker- a miss
Davis- a miss
Bawinkel- a miss
Fuller- a project
May- a project
Cougill- a miss
Archie- a miss

Fran is batting 1000 compared to Lick at this point.
I only disagree with Fuller, I think with a coach not named Licklighter he could have been a legit 3/4 player in the big 10. Even with Licklighter he was starting to put things together, and with an injured ankle.

But on a positive I trust in Fran's recruiting.

Pretty accurate. Bawinkel did about what anyone expected. Sat I the corner and hit the occasional 3. While eating up some minutes. Gave us some senior leadership last year. Fuller was turning out nicely but then transferred.

Fuller was a pretty good player. I don't think offering washpun means other prospects are suddenly off the table. Especially with the offense I *think* Fran wants to run, two PG's on the floor at times could be a really good thing.

I agree that Fuller was looking good by the end of last year,so I was probably wrong to label him a project.....revise that to ''player''.
As for Bawinkel....yes,he did make some threes last year as a senior, but as a junior, was nothing special, and it was his only skill, really,so I do not revise my rating.

Good perspective. It will be hard climb back to where Iowa basketball once was but Fran and Co. are taking those steps, as small as they might seem now.
If Stevens can recruit to Butler and Smart to VCU, Fran can recruit to Iowa. Lets compare..play at Iowa in the Big 10 or Horizon League? Or other Tourney teams...Iowa or Richmond? Iowa or Utah State? My point is there are players out there that Fran can get and I think he will get.
Give him time

To the OP question, No this does not necessarily mean we are out of the running for any of our still available pg recruits.

If Washpun commits first, Iowa will still go after our top pg prospects and redshirt Wes giving us 2 with some time in the program when Bryce leaves. If any of our other pg targets commit first, I have a gut feeling that will do it for PG offers in this class and we continue hard after the 2 best overall players we can land.

I think Fran will take Washpun and either pg recruit with either remaining big or Hubbard and call it a successfull class increasing the over all talent of the teeam nicely.

If Iowa can not secure a comit from our other pg targets then I think we go with Bryce and Marble as far as they can carry us next year and still try to R.S. Wes (assuming he jumps aboard) for 1 year.

We have 3 schollies left and some nice players still on the radar.

I think this offer was in the plans for a while if the Cully transfer happened. Who knows maybe someone has been close but hedging a little bit and this offer will inspire them.
And maybe Cully left because we are recruiting so hard over him and close.

Anyones guess until signing period.

was hoping for a solid point,Olesani, and maybe a good 3-4-5 guy (best available)after that. If we can do that we'll be danerous NEXT year!!

sure would like to hear from Olesani!!! been real quiet, maybe letting the Cully smoke clear and have a BIG announcement

I have no idea which guys we may or may not get. However, I am pretty comfortable in saying Fran has no intention of taking anyone because they are the best available player left. He's on record numerous times as saying he won't waste scholarships on guys that can't play at the level he expects/needs. He said Cartwright could help right away and he was 100% right. He more than just "helped" IMO.

I think...zero inside knowledge...we'll sign at least 2 guys this spring and possibly 3. I can't imagine Fran going into next year without another inside presence...if not a big then Hubbard. I also can't imagine Fran wasting a 2 year roster slot on someone that he has any reservations about taking. Based on his past comments I have to believe he will bank 1 or 2...if necessary...scholarships for next year. I don't say 3 because I'm too confident in his recruiting ability to believe he won't find a gem somewhere...even if we haven't heard of the kid.

was reffering to best guy available that we are already interested in.(Howard, kid from texas, Dillards son), Fuller was Arizona mr basketball seems like he was on boardbefore lick got here, maybe not
