Does this mean we are out of the running?

I hope not. Especially in regard to Carter. He can play off the ball at the 2 and play the 1.

I think we have a better chance at Carter than Stokes, just haven't heard anything on Stokes in a long time.

I think the fact the staff gave Washpun a scholarship means we aren't going to get commits from our top options (Carter, Stokes, etc.) so Wes is our HS prospect then maybe get a JUCO guard to help immediately while Wes gets a couple of years to develop.

We are not a good team right now so getting top talent is going to be next to impossible. However, great recruiters can pull in great recruits no matter the situation. I like this staff but their recruiting has been below average so far (C/C-). We will have a lot of Iowa kids on this team now but feel like we are getting the left over in-state recruits.

The reality is that none of us know what is going on, sit back and enjoy the ride! I think Fran is in play for at least 6 guards, I trust this staffs eye for talent and will be excited with whoever joins this team.

Dude based on what, I mean the signing period isn't even over yet.

If you want to grad them do so on what they have done, not what you are afraid they might do. They have brought in two recruits that have played thus far and I would consider Basabe to be an A- and Cartwright a solid B (only because he has just 2 years of elegibility).

Duffman is correct.

They have brought in two guy that ended the season being two of the better players on the team. That is a good sign. He has two signed guys, both with BCS Conference offers, that is a good sign. The last two- now three- rides are seemingly taking awhile to fill, but you can't judge recruiting based on two unfilled scholarships when you have other information- namely Melsahn, Cartwright, White and Ogelsby.

Oglesby is not a leftover...he is top 110 player.
Washpun might fit that category, but that is not plural..as the posters comment indicated.

Lets not go overboard on declarations of failure just yet,ok?
Fran recruits so far:

Cartwright- HM all big ten,led league in assists
Basabe- all frosh team
Oglesby- top 110 player
White- Offers from Xaiver among others,3rd team all state in Ohio..
Meyer- unknown quanitity but rising prospect in some circles.

Lets see how the rest of spring goes, before getting too harsh.
Compare the above record with Licks 1st 3 years of recruits:
Brommer- a miss
Tucker- a miss
Davis- a miss
Bawinkel- a miss
Fuller- a project
May- a project
Cougill- a miss
Archie- a miss

Fran is batting 1000 compared to Lick at this point.

Kyle Meyer, out of an insanely talented AAU program, committed because he liked the contact-free coaches and decided Iowa was the place for him.

So since Cully left is he also a miss for Lickliter?

Good perspective. It will be hard climb back to where Iowa basketball once was but Fran and Co. are taking those steps, as small as they might seem now.

Bad move, JHHawk.

I don't really thing rating Fran's recruiting has anything to do with the recruiting of the previous regime.

I would agree that he shouldn't be rated as a recruiter until this class is done. If he pulls in two more guys and they are like Basabe and Cartwright to go along with who he already has, his rating would skyrocket. Of course, we wouldn't know they were that good until next winter, so how can you rate them even a day after this class is in and have any true accuracy in your commentary?

Also, I think we should temper the criticism of looking at Washpun. It appears higher teams were not offering him until he became qualified. It will be interesting to see if any more high majors come calling. It sounds like the kid knows what he wants to do and just is waiting to announce. I would think that makes him an Iowa lean, but that's just a guess.
