Seems his name is pretty fitting. I'm reminded of the great nick name "bowling ball of butcher blades" owen gill?

I kinda thought 'rolling ball of butcher knives' was Owen Gill or Norm Granger like other posters.

Then I remembered that Owen Gill was the 'Baby Bull'.

Maybe the butcher knives saying is yet another ubiquitous Fryism?

Scratch where it itches!

According to Hawkeye Sports Hayden Fry called Richard Bass a rolling ball of butcher knives. I personally thought it was David Hudson until I read this.

Bass, Baby, Bass

Bass was a four-year letterman for Coach Hayden Fry's Hawkeyes in the late 1980s. A 5-foot-11, 230-pound fullback who Fry called a "rolling ball of butcher knives" captained and was named co-Most Valuable Player of Iowa's 1989 squad. Bass played on Hawkeye teams that advanced to the 1986 and 1987 Holiday Bowl games and the 1988 Peach Bowl.
