Does Iowa have the best QB in the WEST?

I woulda thought Thorson, but NW has a dumpster fire brewing in Evanston right now. They're probably going to be 2-4 heading into the Iowa game.

That Purdue guy has a ridiculous completion percentage right now. There's zero chance that stays up there.

Be careful....last year I would have said the same thing about NW. They lost to W Michigan and an FCS team before playing us and looked absolutely terrible on offense. Next thing you know, they put up 38 on us.

But that story has a lot in common with the Cyclone story . . . circle Iowa on the calendar and make them your season. It pisses me off KF doesn't understand you have to adjust your plan for individual coaches/programs.

But we did win yesterday so maybe Brian understands something his stubborn father doesn't. I sure as heck hope so.

Right now, I'm not necessarily focused on how good or bad the defense is.

What I'm focusing on is the variety of formations and the variety of calls out of those formations, how much we are breaking from our historical tendencies out of both the called formations as well as down and distances. And I'm really liking what I'm seeing there.

That'll keep a guy like Fitz, who I swear knows our playbook better than the team does, from loading up on specific formations or down and distance tendencies.

At that point, it really will be pure execution. Which is why I've not particularly like it when KF has talked about "execution" in the past because I've felt that he's hamstrung our offense from being able to truly execute because of the tendencies he's refused to back away from....until this year so far anyway....
My post was about Nebraska.

@Xerxes wondered out loud how Nebraska scored over 30 with their hyped-out new kid and I told him it's because they played 2 really horrible defenses so far.

True. Its just crazy after 2 games to see Thorson with 2 TD's and 3 INTs and Jackson with 3.4 yards per carry and 1 TD.

my apologies, I assumed you meant Iowa. Iowa has played 2 horrible D's as well tho

Maybe. Regardless of the caliber of defense, I came away impressed with Stanley's composure in the first couple of weeks. Things started off terribly against Wyoming and he didn't let it snowball on him. Against Iowa State, he and the offense faced some adversity in the 2nd half. In multiple pressure situations on the road against a rival, he responded well. Those are encouraging things to see from the Hawkeyes young QB. With that said, the hire of Jeff Brohm at Purdue is a good one and I wouldn't be surprised to see Blough perform fairly well the rest of the way.

Did an ISU defender even get a hand on one of Stanleys passes? I know he threw a few away here and there but as far as contested throws it didn't seem like anything was even close to having been picked off was there? He was in control out there. If he'd have hit on even just one of those bombs he'd have had 6 tds and over 400 yards... That's getting into some serious air raid offense territory.

Every single one of us on this board would shit our pants if we had to walk out on a B1G field with millions of people watching, let alone at age 20 and having to remember an entire D1 football offense cover to cover.

Stanley was the absolute correct choice over Wiegers and he'll do just fine.

I know Iowa states defense sucks but I came away really impressed with Stanley. Played with a lot of poise and was really clutch. I think we got a special one in him.

I think most of you are being overly critical about how bad both Wyoming and ISU's defenses are. I would say both will be in the top 70 defensively. Considering we couldn't throw the ball on Ankeny HS last year, I'm not sure what all the bitching is about. Week 1 offense looked capable. Week 2 they looked potent. The diversity of playcalls and running the offense based on matchups has me optimistic that this team will surprise us and we will steal a win against PSU or OSU. The concern is of course a let down game somewhere when we come out flat and lose to someone we are actually better than. Looking at you Minnesota or Nebraska.
